If I need the legs (they are the bottom half off aluminium crutches) I'll fasten them on the sides with 'P' clamps. Just for uneven ground... Oh and only three, coz three legs are more stable than four and wont rock. The turntable seat is available as a disability aid to help getting in and out of car seats and under a tenner.

Two slots cut in the drum about an inch down from the rim. Cut the shoulder straps leaving about 8 inches. Pas them through the slots and pop rivet down inside. I used very large headed rivets. Same with the side tabs; removed the straps and riveted direct through the drum. I suppose you could use small nuts and bolts with a large repair washer to spread the load. The frame had its bottom rail cut to size so it flushed up to the plastic. It was then drilled and bolted to the drum. No complicated fixings I like simple. This was mocked up before the cloth was wrapped round thge drum and then everything permanently fixed once the cover was in place. The cover is pop riveted through several layers round the bottom and I found a length of strapping in the shed for round the top. I probably would have riveted it also if I hadnt had the strap. I dont do sewing I used a cover because the plastic drum wont hold paint for any length of time, it just shells off. You could then live in it when out on a long shoot...................

Like the idea of the squat on bucket you can get several small sandwiches in and struggle across a field with. I improved the idea for a grown up................................ Managed to gather some materials together and warmed up my big hammer. Bits included a tenner for a 60l blue bin, a tenner for two fleabay kids rucksacks and a tenner for a military radio backpack frame. The bin is just the right height for me to either perch on the edge ready to stand and shoot or sit back on and relax a bit. The camo is a bit mickey mouse but its all I had and I hate spending money............... Its not too heavy unladen but once I get the thing full, who knows............ At about 20 stone and 6'4" its as strong as I need it with no risk of collapse............ Even the hound likes it............. I have three aluminium extendable crutch legs that I was thinking of nailing on the sides for uneven ground and a turn table seat but I'll do some field tests to see if necessary.

Just done the very same thing. I am undecided on pan material as yet. I like the idea of alli but may go with steel. I think the ramp is for me. I just think it is a little easier to set up.

The problem with starch plastic was/is, it doesn't degrade fast enough. Its selling point was renewable materials not decomposition.

I didnt know I had an idea on the tap..... I was just thinking of a long bolt with a slot up the thread. The head of the bolt would flush up to the bottom of the hopper to stop flow. The only down side I could think of was it would work the opposite way to a standard tap (clockwise to open) I cant see me rushing out to buy a lathe to make cones and slots and the like so I'll have to get some hexperimenting done.

The hopper and pan are heated via the drilled holes with these (industrial cartridge heaters); Temperature is automatically controlled by P.I.D.; Your lead ingots are melted in the hopper and allowed to run into the pan where temperature is maintained and flow controlled via the valve. I would hope that the guess work can then be eliminated (or at least prolonged set up and constant adjustment) as regards temp and pan volume to regulate dripper rate and help with uniform production. Drippers and ramp are not shown in the sketch as I would think most know where they go.

Seems to me if you want to roll your own you only have two choices. 1/ Buy a shotmaker, spend weeks getting it to work, make a drum of shot then stick it under the sink for the next five years or stick it on fleabay. 2/ Make a shotmaker and follow the above. It seems to me that once you've had a mad few hours and run out of scrap lead your unlikely to need to set the garage alight again for quite some time. I am unfortunately a die hard tinkerer and am looking into making a dripper but as so many times before, I hate the idea of it sitting idle for years afterwards. Its also going to be quite a posh one so I doubt the second hand market will be prepared to cough up enough for me to part with it. After some serious bonce scratching and several back of beer mats later I have a design. I have some bits en rout from china and I have pestered and plied a welding alcoholic to give it a bash for slightly less than my daughters good name. It will be a plug and play unit. The least titting about as humanly possible. Heats itself, primes itself and feeds itself. Hopefully. My question is; would it be a BAD idea (once I have my supply) to pass it round a bit. In other words would anyone be interested in paying for the postage to their house, filling up on shot then posting it off to the next sucker, I mean member. Or do you think it would all end in tears a broken unit and several deaths. Just an idea........................ got to make it yet. Iain.

Hi Robert. Pretty much cleaned up on my two permissions so its a bit quiet. Im not after any more for the time being as I have a lot on at the moment but if things pick up Ill give you a shout. As I say boys a light hearted thread on being taken a back by a woodcock that should have been on its way to Russia or wherever and a bad attempt by me to fanny about and see if I could catch up with it. Take it how you want to. And do try to lighten up. Life is far too short. Oh by the way has anyone actually managed a woodcock ( in season ). I have probably come across half a dozen over the years and never managed to get near a shot off. How the hell they manage a right and left ill never know.

Well said. I shouldn't complain really it's nice to know people out there care about these things as indeed I do. The fact my shotgun doesn't have an auto safety and I dont engage it when empty doesn't come into it but hey ho. The comments were to show my poor shooting abilities rather than my desire to shoot the bird. I suppose it's easy meat to those who feel the need to troll or whatever they call it. I can't wait to be called a newbee. At my age I wish I was.
