  1. I chose mine the day I put three pellets into a squirrel's noggin... AND IT LOOKED AT ME THEN RAN UP A TREE!
  2. Theme from "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly". What else?
  3. Sound moderators work by damping sonic pressure created when explosive gases expand faster than the speed of sound, thus slowing down the explosive effect and reducing the amount of noise produced at the muzzle. It makes no difference whether it's a PCP, powder charge or CO2 or even a springer, one moderator will have the same effect on all; it's simple physics. As to safety, it's as safe as the individual behind the trigger. 'Nuff said. :-)
  4. finished 22, back 27-29, then normal from 2/1 on. I need the money :-( The good news is, there'll be plenty of work on for me, as I mop up the mess of the ****e PCWorld are punting out this year. Any of you lot bring me a laptop to upgrade/fix and I'll shoot it.
  5. So, there was me and my buddy out in the middle of NOWHERESVILLE, Nottinghamshire, on Christmas Eve, looking to take home some fresh meat for the table. Good thing the missus had thought ahead and bought up some cow and some pig, because the table bunny didn't happen. We saw exactly one the entire day (well, I saw it, he didn't), and lemme tell you, those things can /run/! Very few pigeons out this time as well, which was a bit of a surprise, because the area's usually teeming with the things. A few 'pies and rooks, not much else. At least his ferret gets to eat fresh over the next few days... Note to all: Gamo Delta Fox in .177 is a fantastic all-weather rifle. Not a huge amount of power in it, but it can lob those 17gr triple-skirts a loooooooooooong way. Open sighted it's a great little sporter, weighs next to nothing (I saw my friend struggling after nine hours under the weight of his Weirauch springer and felt almost sorry for him). Happy holidays!
  6. 1. Target shooting in your own back garden is fine, you're legally entitled to do so. 2. Jackdaws are corvids, and as corvids are on the general licence this year, they're on the quarry list. HOWEVER 3. Local byelaws may prohibit you from taking animals (even vermin) with air weapons in built-up areas. Check this first. I would also check with the police and get an incident number having confirmed with them the area (marked on a map) in which you intend to shoot. I have such documentation and have no problems with the neighbours after the first time they complained; I called the police and gave the incident number, handed the phone over to the neighbour who was told by the firearms officer to stop wasting his time! 4. Make sure if you are cleared to take jackdaws/other vermin, that you have adequate backstops and that your pellets do not stray beyond your boundaries. FWIW, getting clearance to shoot land by the landowner does not limit you to the quarry list - ANY animal that the landowner deems a pest to his livelihood becomes a viable target if you have the bore/power for it. Hare is good eating this time of year.
  7. A better solution I think would be to have the stock remoulded to fit your shooting style - if you drop the stock, you'll have to adjust your aiming syle or you'll shoot too high every time. If you have a crook-down stock (ie more bend in it) so it sits further down your shoulder when you take to aiming, it'll just drop right on in there where it's supposed to be and your pit crease will take the kick instead of the meat of your shoulder or your collarbone.
  8. Being as I don't have a stirrup pump for my S200, I would have to say I'd go with my Stingray. Lids off coke bottles at 110m with a 4x40 scope. Easy. At that rate, lunch isn't ever too far off for me.
  9. OK, so I grabbed me some 7-grain match pellets and starts plugging away with my Nightstalker at a ping-pong ball at 20 yards. Everything's going great until... Clip #4. Sid's getting so violent he's rattling in the casing. All of a sudden the thing jams. Uh-oh. Out comes the clip. Let's see. Eight shots, three in the hole... erm... Nope, barrel's clear. Dry-fire. Not happening. I know where that other pellet went. It's jammed up in the ********* mech. In a fit of blind panic I break out the screwdriver. Out comes all those screws, off comes the side of the casing. Right there under the shuttle. Popped it out, now it works again. I'm sworn off of pellets for Sid now, he's on a steady diet of Gamo BBs. Laps 'em up, and puts 'em exactly where I point the barrel. Boy, that ping-pong ball is gonna SUFFER this week! Feedback: Has anyone else field-stripped their airgun and got it working? MacGyvered it with duct tape maybe?
  10. ok, y'all know about Supersonic Sid (the Crosman), but if I had to name all my guns, they'd go something like this: Webley Stingray .22: Brum (no, not the car. It's a Brum iron barrel ) Westlake B2 .22: Norm (as in, Cheers. It burps, due to having a slightly undersized airport and an Ox spring) AAS200 .22: 'Arry. Don't ask. Walther CP-88: Mindy. Ditto. Makarov MP-654K: Exidor. The thing has so much power it makes me paranoid. Beretta 92FS: erm... um... yeah. Having recently took the iron sights off it (I've always sighted it down the side of the barrel anyway, so I don't miss 'em), it's gotta be [Quick Draw] McGraw. and my brain goes to sleep. back to work for me then.
  11. I swapped my Makarov MP-654K and a hundred notes for an S-200 (good deal, eh?). Spent the next three weeks pining for the mak until I bought it back for the same as what I'd spent on it in the first place (but at least I got it back!) I sold my CP-88 because I needed the money for bills. Spent the next three weeks pining for it, eventually got it back for half of what I sold it for(!) Me happy bunny again. As to selling any more of my weapons? Not a chance. Well, maybe the B2, but that thing being such a beast, I'd only let it go to someone I know can handle it. That thing kicks like a mule and twice as hard . Not a n00b springer.
  12. Personally, I'd go with a Parker-Hale threadmount and a Weirauch composite silencer, all you'd hear then is the action and the impact.
  13. Like, ouch. Was there anything left of the guy? Enough to scrape up, maybe?
  14. Crosman Nightstalker, had it less than a week, it's been christened on rats, as "Supersonic Sid". Crosman .177 match pellets (the yellow jacket steel jobs) go like **** off a shovel.
  15. if I come up against a rabbit that big, I'm running. Ever see Monty Python? On saying that, I think I came across one of those indestructible rabbits last year. Me and my shooting buddy put twenty seven shots into it at ranges from 25-35 yards, the thing must've been wearing kevlar - flipped us and went... thataway. As yet, we've not stumbled on a body.
  16. well, there's actually guidelines for this sort of thing. Any dead carcass is a potential biohazard, so the best thing to do is incinerate them. Arrange with the landowner for an area of turf to be dug out (maybe 3ft diameter, 3ft deep) and lined with bricks, rocks or other hardcore. Line the bottom with dry, loose scrub or old fence timber, then throw the bodies in. Liberal application of kerosene, then a match. Stand well back and inhale that heady hydrocarbon goodness, then when it's gone out (I mean out, no smouldering), fill the hole back in and returf it. Carcasses are now safely disposed of and unlikely to pose a health risk or attract other vermin.
  17. 1. Air Arms S200 (nonstandard) .22 10.5fpe 3-9x44 scope 2. Webley Stingray carbine (nonstandard) .22 4x32 compact scope 3. Ox-sprung Westlake B2 (definitely nonstandard) .22 4x40 half-hair scope 4. Crosman 1077 .177 custom bullpup open reddot sight that's my rifles... here's my pistols CO2 (all .177) 1. Beretta 92FS (no sights - took 'em off 'cos I don't need 'em) 2. Makarov MP-654K iron sight 3. Walther CP-88 match sight 4. Crosman Repeatair single-shot custom standard sight 6mm BB 1. Walther PPK-S 2. Colt 25 Pocket Special 3. Taurus Millennium 4. half a dozen other pistols (cos running aorund the woods doing a John Woo on your friends is fun!) 6mm BB rifles 1. 2x Colt 1177 Electric custom turbo (300rpm against the factory 180) 2. Desert Eagle M1-A1 single shot (cos sometimes the wargames get serious ) There're others in the works...
  18. I've bullpupped a Crosman 1077. Added cutdown skeleton stock, cut the barrel to 14", enlarged the chamber, transferred the trigger mech with two bike spokes and a Crosman Repeatair pistol trigger. One open reddot sight later, I've got a very compact 12-shot repeater. 18.25" from muzzle to rear of stock.
