  1. Congratulations to you both
  2. Finished nights yesterday morning and decided to stay up and benefit from an extra day off, (instead of sleeping it away). Sorted it with the wife for some time out on the pigeons at the farm I shot at last week. My middle boy wanted to come (3 yr old), so eventually I said ok . We arrived at the field, he was dead excited just being able to drive into the field, and set up the 10 decoys and the hide. This particular field is between two fields of wheat that I don't have permission to shoot on so we are set up in a hedge near one of the wheat fields which has been harvested in the last week. So now I have the problem of all the pigeons and crows and jackdaws and every other seed eater around are on the harvested fields and not where I want them. I need to add some movement to my armoury of decoys. Anyhow, waited patiently and sure enough they started to drift by and the odd one would decoy in to my pattern. I started off with a horseshoe pattern and added dead birds on stick cradles as I went along. After a while I changed layout slightly to more of an L shape. Several birds landed in the pattern (they never left) and also took a few in flight. Eleven birds taken for thirty one cartridges which is a big improvement on recent figures. Little fella got a bit bored at first but as the birds started to come in he really seemed to enjoy it, and was really good at picking up and announcing at the top of his voice 'its dead dad' as he brought each bird back to the hide before it went back out as a decoy. Here is Zac with the eleven pigeons, and again in the Sportrak. Thanks for reading Mick
  3. I never realised that Adam ant was into gardening dressing up yes but not cultivation. You learn something new every day it seems.
  4. :good: Good going there, must have been a cracking evening shoot.
  5. Went out this afternoon with the father in law to our local permission near clitheroe lancashire. The farmer has given us permission to shoot a new field in a seperate area to his land that we normally shoot on so we thought we would give it a looksee as apparently plenty of bunnies there. Then planned to go to usual spot of land and try some decoying. New field looked fantastic, plenty of rabbits knocking about mid afternoon, shot just the one as the others spotted us having a mooch about, but still one rabbit in the bag is a good start. Then we headed back to our normal area of land that is situated between a couple of wheat fields, (not been harvested as yet). We usually see a few pigeons about but not in great numbers. But today saw a steady stream of ones and twos coming over. My shooting of late has been pretty poor but today I felt much better about it and took some good birds at difficult angles. Father in law still struggled but also improved. Both of us shot the same bird at one point ,I fired and thought 'cracking shot that' then he asked 'who did I think hit it?' I had only heard the one shot ring out so we must have fired at the exact same moment. Not fit to crown that one . Birds kept dropping by all afternoon and we packed up at 7pm with one rabbit and seventeen pigeons. Its usually two or three!!! Final score five and a half to him and eleven and a half to me. Not as big as most of the bags on here but our best day ever cracking sport, nice weather and a good result. Thanks for reading, I'll take the camera next time. Mick
