  1. Stop whistle, recall and quartering training leads I Have for sale a number of specifically designed training leads. These have been designed by me to a certain specification that I thought would be benificial to my dogs training. There are a number of long training style training leads available but most if not all seem to be with a clip on the end to be used with a collar where as I wanted a slip lead style to be used for my gun dog training. These are great for stop whistle, recall and quartering training and at 6 meters long are very versatile. They are great for sitting your dog up at any distance up to 6 meters, pipping your recall whistle and then guiding your dog straight back into you. You can also use it as a stop cord for reinforcing the stop whistle command as well as being great as a lunge cord to encourage your hunting dog to form a good tight hunting pattern whilst quartering infront and across you. They have been manufactured for me within the UK and after a few training companions and friends having had one I have a limited number left over with the option to have some more made up. £12.50 including PayPal fees and postage to the UK Please message me for my PayPal address Col
  2. I've just found a Nissan Terrano commeecial in green with 120k on the clock for £4k looks imaculate too. I've heard if you get a tidy one they are fairly bullet proof snd it fits my criteria. I read good things about them on forums with no other issues than you'd expect from any other 4x4. Any views on these?
  3. Well I have been keeping my eye out for a small 4X4 van/commercial and have been looking for Terrano vans (rocking horse **** so it seems), Shoguns (engine bit big for what I need) and more recently decided a Freelander TD4 would more suit my needs. Is there anything I should be cautious about before buying a Diesel Freelander? Also Freelander owner, would you reccomend? Cheers Col
  4. Well done. Thats a fantastic resulst! Especially a new shoot in its experimental first season. Great job mate
  5. That’s another season been and gone :( After my Springer coming in season and then missing as few weeks with a leg injury she managed to make a comeback for our last couple of days of the season and she did me proud! She achieved some cracking retrieves on Friday and worked her tail off too. I didn't think she'd make it out on the Saturday as she absolutely knocked her pan out despite me trying to hold her back and take it easy with her...it’s just not in her nature though as I am sure is the same with all Springer. They don't have an off switch! After a hot bath she didn’t move an inch for the rest of the night and was planning on leaving her at home on the Saturday because of not doing anything at all but lay around in front of the fire for 4 or 5 weeks I thought she'd be stiff as a board. Nope, as soon as I came down stairs at 6am she was up and bouncing around. Dressed in my shooting attire she just knew it was game on again and was once again keen as mustard! Luckily it was a bit easier day for her as far as the cover was concerned with it mostly being flattened maize crops and plantations rather than the usual black thorn and brambles. It was also a walk and stand so she was able to have some well earned breaks in between drives. Once again she was superb and as always was an absolute pleasure to have with me. At the end of the day I was even thanked by the keeper for bringing her and complimented on how well she worked. Now the season is over its back to training and I am looking forward to meeting up the local gundog club and also the possibility of running in a working test or two. How has everyone’s season been? And like me I'm sure you have all been delighted with how your companions have tirelessly worked for you throughout the season. ATB Col
  6. 03.48 Jesus, Joseph and Mary! Baring in mind the beaters are at the tree in front of him and his barrels are almost horizontal !!!!
  7. **** the bed! Some of those shots on the first drive!........
  8. No problem Mr Underdog. I have a good idea now of what I want to do so I'm all good Its not a case of looking for excuses just more about me understanding my chokes and being able to adapt to a different shooting situation. People mention tightening up later in the season but in my situation I feel its the other way around. Start to mid season my shooting was decent driven pheasant and partridge from cover crops and have been using 3/4 & 1/2 chokes succesfully. Now my last couple of days shooting are clear up days in the woods so shooting lower birds in a much smaller window of oportunity. I just want to give myself maximum chance of a clean kill with blowing them in half. Anyhow I called into my local gunshop last night and he gave me a 1/4 so now have the full set and can change acordingly and also run a few pattern tests and see what suits me and my gun best. I don't see the point in simply throwing in what I have and making do, when I can put togther a sensible combination and achieve maximum desired effect to suit the shooting situation. Anyway, thanks for all your input. Much appreciated
  9. I have - x 2 - Skeet x 1 - 1/2 x1 - 3/4 I'd like a 1/4 so I can go 1/2 & 1/4 and be done with it.
  10. Yeah that does sound like a happy medium to go with. Shame I don't have any 1/4 chokes....think I will have to try and find some to purchase
  11. Black Gold 30g 6's fibre. or just bought some Hull super fast HV's 29g 6's so might give those a wirl
  12. Now have one thank you. Col
  13. Thats what I was thinking. I'm not too clued up on chokes and at what hight/range bird i should be using what for. I was thinking of putting cylinder/cylinder in and going with that. What kind of suitable killing range would I be looking at?
  14. What are peoples choke choice for the average pheasant partridge ( I don't want to get to specific and get into what peoples opinions are on what an average pheasant is) but just in general what do folk use? Does anyone use the same choke in both barrels? Would anyone consider using Skeet/Skeet in both barrels? (obviously not on high birds) Just interested on peoples thoughts as have a couple of days shooting left on Friday and Saturday and was going to swap my chokes up to see if makes any difference to my shooting.
  15. Wright feeders seem good but the grain you put in needs to be tip top from what I gather. Any chaff and crud that blocks it and you'd have to tip up and empty the whole feeder just to unblock it. Springs can be a pain but at least you can run a knife or screwdriver through the spring to unblock it.
  16. I've pretty much decided thats what I'm going to go for. They do seem few and far between but I've got a couple of months so will be patient and just keep trawling the internet each day and see if anything pops up at a reasonable distance.
  17. I am aware of diesels being able to run on veg oil but not too clued up on it. Hoe does it work? Do you literally just tip the veg oil in and run it as you normally would or is there any specific maintainence you need to keep up with? Also is there any difference in milage between diesel and veg oil? - cheers
  18. Yes your correct. When you look online it states the TAX figures etc. but having just got off the phone to a dealer that has one he has confirmed what you are suggesting. Which is a bonus! I'll have a look at SWB Land Cruiser, I didn't know they did one.
  19. i too am looking at a Terrano after a little looking around at other options. Thinking of going for the commercial version in 3.0 diesel. Am I right in saying though that from 56 plateon onwards the tax is a whopping £495 a year?
  20. Thanks for your replies chaps. It needs to be on the smaller size due to parking. With the Mrs car on the drive the astra esate only just gets on so although a pick up would be preferred its not an option unfortunately. I'm now thinking SWB Nissan Terrano comercial. Pre March 06 ( after that the tax is £495 per 12 months!!! ) From what I can gather they are pretty reliable old buses with room for dog and a few sacks of wheat in the back without folded down seats restricting me. Possibly comfortableish on road and capable for what off road i need it for (mainly slippy, slightly rutty grass track and stubble fields) Rav4 will be a little too limited I think although not doubting thier reliability.
  21. To be honest it won't be a lot but when i do need to go off road it will be important. I have just taken on keepering half our shoot on a part time basis so when the weather comes wet i'll still need to get food to my partridges. Other than that not a great deal other than dropping decoying gear off over stubbles (which currently i can't do as the farmer doesn't want my low exhaust starting a stubble fire!)
  22. What MPG do people get out of there Terrano? Just looking at a 56 plate 2.9 diesel 2 seater comercial.
  23. Yes I was looking at these too. Seem practical.
