  1. Don't you have to then carry some form of proof of who you are; you could be giving a friends details?
  2. Bl**dy hitch-hikers - what will they do next to get a free ride?
  3. Those pics are great; I'm envious of the position you were in. I'll just have to stick with my models!
  4. That's the proceedure! I could only rmember the heat bit, and the mention of the saucepan. Cheers mate
  5. I live in Wickford and shoot either at Waltham Abbey, or possibly Dartford or JJ's. Where abouts are these other shoots in Chadwell and Billericay? Wouldn't mind trying somewhere different. Ta.
  6. Thanks for the replies. I guese I'll just have to gradually draw it out wuth white spirit. Seems to be lightening up but is taking some time! Cheers.
  7. Yeah, I'm doing that at the mo! But it's along, drawn out process. I thought I read somewhere about heat drawing it out, but I can't seem to find the info now.
  8. Does anyone know how to get light oil / oil marks out of a gun stock? I'm after a finish like the Black Onyx advertised on this site, a high gloss which I have not been able to acheive with Tru Oil. The stock is stripped but appears to have some light oil ingress. I've read somewhere about a technique that removes this, but can't seem to find it. Anyone know?
  9. (only the guy above isn't stupid and makes a fair point) Can there be another option in the poll.... Should be refused a licence (driving and/or shotgun)
  10. Thanks for all your support. The info regarding the injury claim is appreciated. Ta all!
  11. I didn't accept any cash deal. When he phoned I had just got off the phone to the insurers. He begged me to rescind it though, but I said it is now out of my hands. I got the impression that he was a named driver on his dads insurance - I know I'd be peeved if it was my son loosing my NCB. The police were involved and I have an incident number - I don't think the lad had the nerve to lie to them about his address, so I think one way or another it will be sorted (insurance, or legal [sueing] action).
  12. I'd hazard a guese and say that air is leaking past the piston, probably a seal gone. Since this mechanism is under constant pressure from the spring (even when un-cocked), it's something that is best looked at by a gunsmith. Ofcourse, I'm assuming that the pellets are OK and there's no blockage or infringement in the barrel.
  13. Well, after 24 years of event free riding, 8 of them, and 60,000 miles, on my trusty Honda VFR, someone finally decided on Friday that I was target practice for them! Coming around Gants Hill roundabout (East London), had my indicator on, done the usual check over my shoulder before I exit, seen a car start to move out from my left (nothing unusual; they all seem in a rush nowdays), then out of the corner of my eye I see movement and as I look over the shoulder again he hits me somewhere in the left rear. I had a 'mini highside' as the bike was flung over to the right and I flew a couple of feet clear. Right now my right shoulder and hip are feeling really bruised - felt OK to ride home, but had to go to A&E later and was diagnosed with whiplash. Police were on the scene really quick and were a great assistance with driver details, etc. It's really p**sed off my weekend though. My car's off the road and was booked in for an MOT Sat morning, which will now have to wait a week. Saturday afternoon, and again this morning I was due to go shooting; I had one of those improver lessons booked, and was going to try out a cheap Zabala o/u (I want it as a 'rough gun'), but it's too bloody painful to lift any weight at the moment. Hospital said I should keep it moving with gentle excercise; I guese shotgun recoil is out then The hospital doc said it will probably be quite a few days before the effects start to wear off, so my boss has said to take Monday and Tuesday off and phone about the rest. So right now, what with the repairs to the bike, scuffed leathers, damaged helmet, injured shoulder and interuption to my social life, I'm feeling really P&^$ED OFF! Just to add insult to injury, the lad phoned me up yesterday morning and offered to pay for the fairing panels; he wanted to come to a cash agreement - '...if my dad found out, he'll kill me'! Somehow, I'm not worried about one less boyracer on the road! B)
  14. Thanks Martin. BTW, haven't I seen that picture somewhere before? It's a 'dry' grease you've used, isn't it.
  15. What are they (apart from the obvious)?
  16. My daughter and I had a pigeon hit us in the arms; got her more than me. But I don't know if this counts ; we were doing 80 mph up to Donnington Park to see the GP when it happened! Her leather was stained dirty grey/white from the feathers and she had a nasty bruise for a while.
  17. Cheers guys. Weren't just the ejectors; the springs were a bit clogged as well (little *******!). Seems a lot better now, ta.
  18. I've got a Beretta 686 with a slight problem I've noticed. When shooting today, and whilst cleaning, I've noticed the effort required to break the barrels is more than usual as if it's 'gumming up' somewhere. However, this is only noticeable when the mechanism has been fired. Just opening and closing it seems fine but it is stiffer to open once the trigger has been pulled for both barrels (hope this makes sense to someone!). When cleaning I regularly oil the 'break open' lever, the two pushrods in the bottom of the breech, and the hinge pins, and ejectors. So what's going on, why does it require more effort to open the barrels once the gun has been fired? Am I doing something wrong?
  19. Cheers Lefty. I'll see if I can get ahold of one to borrow before I commit to £30.
  20. Sorry to bring this to the fore again (at least I use 'search and didn't open another thread on the same topic!). I've been shooting in 'rifle mode' using either one eye totally, or closing one eye just before the shot. I've been shooting since January this year and normally shoot about 60% of the clays. It was suggested to me (and I read a lot about it in these forums) that my score could be improved with both eyes open. I recently tried this and found that some targets were easier, and some that I thought I should have hit I missed completely. I tried the above test with a lamp-post outside my window and normally end up seeing the post with a finger either side of it! When shooting clays I can normally see along the rib to the forsight until the gun is fully mounted, and then for some reason that 'picture' goes and is then dominated by two long barrels seeming to cross from right to left (I shoot right handed), albeit in the shadow of the 'straight mounted' gun (a bit like looking down a toilet tube with the right eye and looking at you left hand next to it with your left eye - you see a hole in your left hand!). Would an easy hit sight work, or should I just get an instructor to check me out?
  21. It wasn't a Boots; it was a well known opticians/contact lens center that also happened to have a hearing center associated with it. There is a Boots in Basildon that has a hearing center; I did consider going there. If Emtec deal through Boots then I may just give Morris a ring - cheers.
  22. Emtec Noisebusters How good are they? I already have slight tinitus (probably from bike riding and a few Iron Maiden concerts!), although it's not that bad and I don't want it going there! I recently went to a local hearing center who done all the foam tampon and blue gloop thing to take the moulds. But after two sets of moulds being done, he still could not get a plug to fit my left ear properly. It is a smaller canal and is not quite as 'fleshy'. So I'm wondering if these specialist people at Emtec can do anything, and more importantly, does the filter they fit really attenuate the sound of gunfire that well that my hearing won't get any worse?
  23. Don't worry, you lot. The guys in white coats will be around shortly!
  24. Subject: Thoughts on psychopaths Read this question , come up with an answer , and then scroll down to the bottom for the result. This is not a trick question. It is as it reads. No one I know has been right. A woman , while at the funeral of her own mother , met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much , that she fell in love with him right there , but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister. Question: What is her motive for killing her sister? (Give this some thought before you answer , see answer below ) Answer: She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly , you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous American Psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly. If you didn't answer the question correctly , good for you. If you got the answer correct , please let me know so I can take you off my email list...
