  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I went somewhere in the middle, breakdown case and shelf but a draw on the end for cartridges. Would upload photos but not a clue how from the phone!
  2. Hi all, I have a small 4x4, with side opening tailgate whose boot space isn't wide enough to lay a shotgun across whilst in a slip. My current thoughts are to buy a break down case and make a shelf for the dog crate, so the case can slide underneath. Second option is to make a set of drawers to put the gun in, again crate on top. My question though, is living in a suburb, how would I carry it out of the house and load the gun into the draw without it being obvious what it is? I'd prefer draws but the case seems the most subtle option. How do you load your gun drawers up at home if your in a 'normal' street. Any thoughts please?
  3. Thanks Elevation, looks good. I've also messaged the gundog club as they have a couple trainers quite close
  4. Happy to travel as it won't be that regular as I really want to have a class or two, get a few things to come away to work on an then go back in a month or two so distance isn't a problem - have you someone in mind Elevation? Walker - really appreciate the reply. It's nice to hear someone make it seem slightly less daunting than some of the guides I've read!
  5. Hi guys, We pick up our first pup on the 10th, a cocker who will be about 8 weeks. I've got a few books and some dvds, which of course all offer differing advise so I'd really like to find a trainer near by I could have a few hours with every now and then to help both the dog and myself progress. I'm in Plymouth so if anyone knows of a good local trainer or how to find one, along with any other advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks Stuart
  6. Zetter, I will have a look tonight and let you know, although I thinks it's more the process of placing his eye that the kit itself, as I can see through it perfectly well. Ph5172 I hadn't thought of that, I will give it a go as it makes sense to me that it would get the eye placement correct Thank you both for your replies
  7. I purchased off here a springer for my boy a little while back which he is really enjoying and has proved a very effective way of introducing firearm safety to him. He's using open sights at the minute as the scope that came with it he couldn't get the hang of. I've taken it off the rifle and even using it as a telescope he struggles to get the correct angle/distance to get a good sight picture. I though about picking up one of the red dot Chinese jobs from Ebay as a starter for him. Does anyone have any other options/ recommendations? Thanks Stuart
  8. Just for anyone else's reference I found both a taxidermist and a tanner near Plymouth. Taxidermist - www.wildwoodtaxidermy.co.uk Tanner - www.devoniaproducts.com
  9. Thanks for the replies. I did have a god previously using a guide I found online but didn't get great results, so was really hoping to opt for the professional approach this time
  10. Hi guys, I've tried ringing round a few local gun shops without any luck. I have a fallow hide in the freezer I'd like to get tanned, does anyone know of anyone local? Thanks Stuart

  12. I've been doing a bit of research and I'd quite like to have a go at some leather work. Does anyone have any ideas on a good place to start eg. Website or a good beginners book? Also, any idea of the likely start up costs involved in getting a beginners kit together? Am I talking £10s or £100s here? Thanks in advance Stuart

  19. I've booked the first of a couple of days driven shooting this year and have done plenty of reading on what to expect. One thing that never seems to come up is what happens to the birds at the end of the day. Do I get to take any home and if so, how many? Is there any sort of unwritten rule I should be aware of? Also, who keeps a count of the bag? I don't really understand how the bag limits work and how it is shared between the guns. Any advise/info would be greatly appreciated. Stuart
