sling swivel for Remington 552 speedmaster
subbyc replied to subbyc's topic in General Shooting Matters
Hey Wharf Rat, I had a look at the selection but wasn't too sure which would do the best job. I've been advised to avoid barrel sling swivels on another forum though! -
Hi guys, I have got a remy 552 speedmaster and want to fit sling swivels to it. Has anyone else tried it and if so did you fix the fore end swivel to the woodwork or to the barrel or even the tube mag? My forestock can easily be pulled away from the barrel as it's not fixed at the front end so I am concerned a sling will eventually snap the woodwork. The barrel is 18mm diameter and the nearest barrel swivel is 20mm and would have to sit out to one side due to the undermounted tube magazine. I haven't measured the tube's diameter but am concerned that the tube itself wouldn't be strong enough to take the swivel and hence kink or bend thus rendering the tube jiggered! I've even seen a video on youtube where someone has drilled through the forestock and has fitted a brass rod that goes horizontally from left to right between the barrel and the tube thus removing the flex problem I mentioned earlier. Any experience/advice would be much appreciated. Colin

Hi mate, got in from work and had a call pretty much straight away. The lucky caller has bought this and my rifle that was for sale too. Thanks for the interest though.
-
sorry mate, put in a message to you earlier but I don't know where it has gone. Unfortunately I had a phone call before I got online as I was just in the door and the caller has bought both my 1422 and the baikal. Thanks for the interest though.

personally, I would enlist the help of your friendly FEO as they will be the ones to say yae or nae at the end of the day. If you fit a nice sturdy door etc at considerable expense then find it's not sufficient you'll kick yourself!

Hey matey, I will be at club but unfortunately I haven't sold the rifle yet. Had a guy who was interested but am not sure if he understands the requirements for purchasing rifles etc so I gave him all the advice he needed but he has not got back to me since. Would be nice even if he said thanks but no thanks, would save alot of wasted hope. -

Hi Bob, the barrel is 22" and it has a 5/8th F thread. -

It most certainly is a right handed rifle and a very regretful sale but a change at work prevents further use -
Hay guys, thanks for the welcome, it makes me feel all fuzzy inside, oh hang on a minute, I've eaten the ferret!
-
great advice guys, thanks. I am in the market for an FAC pcp and am swithering between pump and cylinder. A cylinder refill for me is no problem as we have compressors for breathing apparatus at work but it almost seems a pain having to get a bottle tested every few years. Having said that, tuning a handwheel is far easier than pumping for 5 minutes!

Hardly any in west Fife. There are however loads of buzzards and magpies. Even the crows are making a comeback. It seems the buzzards are taking the young and managing their numbers that way - damn them

I know you are looking for something 'wee' but have you considered the Honda CRV? I'm running one now and it is great. Does all I need and is capable across the fields and in the goop and is also very comfortable, smooth and powerful when needed. It is also a heck of a lot safer than a Jimny as it's solid.

Hey Humpy, good to 'see' you again! See if I can learn summit different here eh?
-
There's loads here in Fife and also on my shoot in Lothian area. Regularly see groups of 6 or more, considerably more than we had here only a few years ago. Still struggling to get close enough to them though. They must recognise the shape of a rifle!

Beautiful job. It's not easy to repair a bodged repair but you have done a fine job. It is, as they say all in the preparation. Question is, when can you do mine??

I used Krylon paint from the airsoft world on my rusty BRNO barrel. The matt black went on well and looks really good. Seems to last fairly well too.
-
Hey Steve, thanks very much. I hope everyone here is as welcoming and helpful as the 'other' forum!
