  1. Cheers for the photo, What I´ll do is get a few small waste cut pieces of different thicknesses and line em up and see which I´m happy with. If it passes through 10mm steel at 100 yards im gonna have to push my fox shooting out to 200 cos it must be well capable
  2. I have a heavy barrel, If i was to buy again I would go for the normal barrel. I dont see any advantage of the heavy barrel and free hand shots will be easier with the lighter barrel.
  3. After hearing different advice from people ive decided to go for something like below to keep the targets swinging straight.
  4. Funny you mention that, I actually taught of that today but not using an exhaust clamp. I was going to weld a nut of piece of pipe onto the top and hang them all off a metal bar so it can only swing backwards and forwards.
  5. Thats a sound offer cheers, I do know of lads who do precision engineering and working with lathes every day but I was wondering would it be a easy or tough job to make, to be honest ive no idea what the whole shape of the pin looks like or what material it would have to be made of. The rifle itself has a bit of surface rust and ware on it but i heard they're a brilliant gun and cost a lot back in the day.
  6. It may not be the scope but I would take it off and remount it just to be sure that nothing was loose or something causing it not to be mounted properly. Id personally but all the brands of ammo available to you or do go halves/quarters with friends so ye can all find out the best ammo. My hmr likes remington 17gr best.
  7. Really? for 75-100 ft-lb of energy. I taught the vmax would just shatter off maybe a 6mm plate at that distance.
  8. What size groups about was it doing? Have you checked that its not an issue with the scope? First thing I'd do is buy as few boxes of different brand ammo and test them out. Could be a simple solution.
  9. I may have a chance to pick up a old krico 260 .22 s/a soon enough for cheap money. I know they are old and I hear parts are becoming hard to source. Seen magazines going for 100euro. Another thing I hear a lot is because they're old and could be used a lot is that the firing pin wears down on them and causes mis-fires. meant to be another difficult thing to source. Does anyone know would it be possible to make a firing pin or what would have to be done?
  10. Since I'm home next week with plenty time off ive decided to make some steel targets. I was wondering what thickness metal would be good enough to withstand a .22 at 50-100 yards with subs and a hmr wmr at 150-200. The targets will be hanging do I hope that will deflect some of the energy. I will be using scrap metal from around a metal factory so it wont be ar400/500 but its free so it will do for now. Would stainless be stronger? Here's what I made up today and what im hoping to make something along those lines. gongs 75, 125 and 200.. Ill make a few other sized ones to swap to aswel. Using a bolt to hang them so they can be easily swapped. Not sure if ye can see the measurements cos they're scaled for an A3 sheet but they're off slightly because the pieces are tilted down slightly to deflect the bullets. Any opinions on anything I should do differently welcomed.

    iscope

Except its over priced and the Iphone has to be zoomed in to have no big black circle around the screen and when you zoom in the video on a Iphone you might aswel try and get a clearer picture with a potato.
  12. Love how people say the hmr is effected by the wind. The hmr is the least effected by the wind at 100 yards out of the 3 main rimfires. Its effected by the wind at ranges you wouldnt consider with the .22 because of bullet drop and how much its effected by the wind.
  13. 9-13 for prone without a doubt. Especially in grass fields when the slightest bit of tall grass can make a 6-9 useless. For off the roof of a car it depends on how you will be shooting. which ever suits your height and the height of the car. everyone will be different on that. im 6'1 so a 9-13 suits me well and id be hunched over using a 6-9.
  14. Whats the legal amount ye can hold in the shotgun? What I do is load the shells I want in it. which is 1 in ready to fire and 2 in the tube, If I spot a fox or something ive a shell ready and easy to access and put it into the tube.. then I cycle it and the heavy load ends up in the chamber. Either pick the unused shell up afterwards or catch it when you pump the gun
  15. If you're only looking for shooting rabbits at that range you wont need much over 9 or 10x magnification. If you want to shoot longer range targets you'd need more mag. I had a hawke 3-9x40 on my hmr and I had no issues shooting rabbits at 150 yards.
  16. Might be grand for target shooting but out in the field anything over 12-14 mag will require constant parallax adjustment and the higher the mag the more adjustment it will need..Awful amount of adjustment for a bit of bunny shooting
  17. You dont need an illuminated reticle shooting under a lamp at night.. Some people prefer it if the scope has very fine cross hairs for target shooting. Why not try the scope it comes with and see how you find it? 3-9 is plenty for shooting rabbits within the range of a .22. i had a 3-9 on my hmr and was shooting rabbits easily at 150 yards.
  18. Shot in the head at 30 yards.. A .22 or Hmr would of had the exact same results. What a stupid test after saying they weren't happy with the guns ability on FSB shooting rabbits.
  19. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=217546&stc=1&d=1345317313 This one is just ever so slightly over half an inch. Ye must have **** ammo in the UK if you think that because reloading is illegal over here and lads can group well under half inch and quarter inch consistently with factory ammo with CF rifles.
  20. My marlin will group (5shots) half inch at 100yards with remington 17gr v-max and better if it was someone else behind the trigger. I'm happy with that for such a small diameter bullet since its used purely for hunting.
  21. What mods did you do to the marlin? All ive done to mine at the moment is barrel chopped to 18" and a custom made mod for now.
  22. I have a 4-16x50 scope on my hmr and to be honest I rarely go above 10 on it for rabbit headshots within 150 yards. The extra mag is handy sometimes though for longer shots. on 10 you can point and shoot close out to 150. I found on higher mag you had to adjust the parallax too which is grand during the day but if lamping its just another thing to have to do so i didnt bother. Bushnell banner 6-18x50 is getting great reviews and is on sale on most uk optics shops for £99.
  23. I picked up a mossberg maverick pump action and it will fire everything you put in it, some semi autos have trouble cycling cheaper trap carts.. I never short pumped the mossberg or forgot to pump it or anything like that. Its easy to strip down into clean internally and I use it as a tool so it gets plenty of rounds put though it without been worried about the condition of it. You will have the gun pumped and kept on target before you even realise the first shot was a miss so the follow up shot will just as fast.
  24. Blackhawk traverse is what I'm going getting instead of a harris, and its half the price. I was told they are on par with harris on quality and the traverse movement would be handy. They are on sale at cabellas at the moment,
