  1. The lei stainless is a good mod and its lightweight and short and its the same diameter as the heavy barrel.
  2. If I'm walking around shooting pheasants I use the belt as I found the bag annoying getting under fences and over ditches and the likes. The belt makes less noise too if you're trying to be quiet or sneak up on a pond and as the lads said i have different loads in each side. If im shooting duck as dusk or dawn over a pond or pigeons in a hide id fill the bag or pockets. I also find you don't feel the weight of the belt towards the bag.
  3. Check the end of the mod for any stamped markings. If it says .22, no, If it says .25 or .30 then yes it can be used.
  4. Foxes dont complain about it, none of them ran.. Know the bullet drop, and know the wind and its not difficult at all. Practising on paper is important.
  5. the HMR is well capable of knocking foxes cleanly at 140-150 yards. Ive shot out past 100 with chest shots and none of them ran. 140 been the furthest I was comfortable with. People really underestimate the capabilities of the hmr
  6. Why start a thread asking should a rimfire be used for shooting foxes but then at the end say your only on about the .22 (the weakest of rimfires)? will a .22 kill foxes.. Yes.. would I go out and buy a .22 as a foxing gun.. No.. If I was out with a .22 and called a fox within 50 yards would I take the shot?..Yes..
  7. Yeah any moderator will work grand on the HMR as long as its not one of the cheap plastic air rifle ones, they would probably fall apart. What is the length, diameter and weight of the DM80?
  8. Over here the majority of people who have a hmr and dealers stock hornady v-max and its the most expensive over here. I myself use remmy as its what my 2 closest dealers stock. I haven't heard anyone complain about their hornady ammo, but if hornady are saying its a fault why dont they re-call the ammo and offer to replace the damaged rounds? As i said in the previous thread about the issue i had with CCI, they offered to pay for the postage of the remaining ammo for inspection and they would replace the ammo with a few extra boxes.
  9. I hope ye realise hornady, remington, winchester, federal and cci 17gr v-max are all made in the same factories using all the same components. the only difference is the colour of the bullet. Could have just been a bad batch. split casings would mean it was effecting the accuracy. The zero and quality on ammo can vary from each batch. These split casings are obviously a bad batch and you should contact them about it. I had a casing blow out its end and crack up 5mm from the end of the casing and left me deaf for about a minute on saturday, I emailed CCI and they offered to have the ammo sent back for inspection and they would cover all the costs, refund the ammo with extra ammo so their customer care is clearly good. The extra price you pay for remmy is purely for the brand name. I pay the same for each here.
  10. Have you seen any marlins? they are cheaper than cz (about 200euro cheaper over here) and they still shoot under 1" or less groups all day long. I have a marlin vs and love it. Will you be keeping the .22mag along with the hmr? seems like it would become obsolete with a hmr and a lr in the safe too.
  11. since you are keeping the hmr i dont see the point in a 22lr.. Did you consider looking at an air rifle? would be handy to use around/in farm buildings and even cheaper to shoot than the .22.
  12. Said I'd drop in and ssay hello, been lurking around here with a while and joined up a few months ago and finally decided to post. Living in the ROI and have a Hmr and mossy maverick 88 and looking to get a .243 for deer in a few months. Some interesting topics on here with a lot of good reading.
  13. The 240 is heavy and big and if there's any bit of wind its like a parachute holding it up. The 170 is a great lamp and the beam will pick out eyes at well past 600 yards.
