  1. Hello all, For the sake of discussion, I use a Krico 222 full length stock with Atec mod (not everyones cup of tea I know, but it suits me) I Would like to start loading my own!. Not for any particular reason (accuracy, speed) But I just fancy giving it a go, I do get through a few rounds so perhaps you could say my reason is cost. For those of you who load you own already my question is, how much would a basic set up cost. (single stage press, powder scales, lube mat ,dies deburer? (spelling) I have about 500 cases of once used brass. I'm out after Charlie quite often and normaly use Sako arrowhead 50 gr. I should add that most of my permissions are on dead flat grounds with lots of property around so local knowledge is a must. Thats why I use b/tip I feel it's safer. Your experties and suggestions on presses etc would be very helpful. My last question would be , how long does it take to pay for itself. Thanks in advance for replies.
  2. My first bike was a James 150 rode it everywhere till I dropped it on wet leaves (bent it when it slid into the wall). Then a 175 BSA Bantem, Next was a Triumph Tiger cub , then Enfield Crusader, finished my riding then! with a 650 Bonneville when I wrapped it round a telegraph pole racing a Gt Cortina around our village lanes. Took about 6 months to get over that, and by then my parents had bought me an A35 van and I had been banned from Bikes. Didn't ride again for about 25 years, Then started back with a Kawasaki 175 then Virago 1100, onto a Dragstar 1100 custum and now I ride a Yamaha roadstar warrior 1700 (beast of a bike ) sports cruiser inverted front forks off an R1 all alluninium frame, all the power I'll ever need, and at my age my hips would never take riding a plastic (sorry! sports bike ) We call them plastics at our cruiser club cos ours have alot of chrome. I'll stop now my spade isn't big enough for the hole i'm digging !!
  3. Have you tried one of those sonic hand held thingies that postmen use on agressive dogs. Stops them in their tracks, and they leg it, from what I've been told but can't say I've seen it myself. (only a sugestion)
  4. Hi everyone, You can say what you like, and believe what you want. But I was playing golf on Wells golf clubs First hole with a society with 12 others. Being in the first fourball and one of the lads I was playing with said 'Look at the size of that! When I looked at the top of the practice ground over the hedge about 200yds away I saw a large black cat working its way along the bottom edge of the wood. I estimated it was about 18inches high (labradorish hieght). About 3 feet long with a long sweeping tail. I have no doubt in my mind that it was a Panther or black Puma. I shouted back to the others waiting on the first tee and clubhouse and they all saw it. It dissapeared into a gully behind the second tee, so when I got there I went to have a look armed with a 2 iron. I couldn't see anything but then realised what a **** I was( I needed at least a 5 iron to get it out of there) No joking aside I vacated that area quite quickly. We asked in the clubhouse on the completion of our round, and the Steward said that a club member had taken a plaster cast of a huge paw print the week before and sent it of for identification. So convinced of what I had seen had been a Panther that I reported it to the Big Cat society!!
  5. Hi Uncle Albert, I know what you mean about golf courses. I used to clear the rabbits off Wells golf club in Somerset. Luckily the head greenkeeper was a mate of mine and we used to go around in one ot his truck like things, I think he called it a Cushman, Pick up on the back golf cart on the front, anyway it took all the leg work out of the night and it was quiet as well. We used to average about 60 a night with my rimmie, and I got free golf as payment!! The butcher had the Rabbits as well Bargain!! Trouble was he changed his job and I lost the shooting (shame ) it was the easiest shooting I ever had. Thanks for the welcome.
  6. Thank you everyone that has taken the time and trouble to welcome me to PW. It does take effort to welcome somebody onto any board, particularly if its the two hundreth person you've done it for. But it does mean a lot to the person involved and makes them feel more at ease, so thanks again Tonker
  7. Hi Thunderbird, Not far from Wrington, Kingston Seymour in fact from you it would have been on the way to Clevedon.
  8. Hello everyone, My name is Steve but I've been called Tonker for as long as I can remember. I'm a born again shooter. A few years ago I lost my mojo and didn't pick up a gun for 3 or 4 years after falling through a hay barn roof and head butting a teleporter, in fact I was going to let mt SGC and FAC lapse, but luckily I was invited to a guest day at my local shoot, went along ,and then was asked to join as a gun, as one of the guns was retiring. So so gratefull to the person who invited me cos I got the bug again and am now back shooting with a vengeance. If I'm not rough shooting or decoying during the day I'm rabbiting out the back of a Land Rover or Lamping Charlie with my .222 at night. I came across this site by accident looking for horse hoof bait, and it popped up, I'm so glad it did as I've been on here reading the forums ever since. I should add that I've just turned 60 and my mrs thinks I'm mad but it's the shooting that keeps me young at heart,(in fact most who know me think I'm a nutter). I wont bore you with a list of guns but I have a mixture of centrefire, rimfire, shotguns and a HW97k for playing in the garden 10 in total. I'm from North Somerset and see there are some other cider heads here perhaps we'll meet one day. Laters
