  1. Have you been in touch with the military shoot at Craigie Hall just to the west of Edinburgh? Decent rough shoot through the game season and then pigeon and rabbit opportunities through the rest of the year.
  2. 7 today on rape (plus a carrion crow) 245 total
  3. Hopefully a prosecution takes place: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2929735/Shocking-moment-master-hunt-beaten-unconscious-balaclava-wearing-protesters-armed-iron-bars.html
  4. Well, eventually made it out last Saturday but unfortunately blanked. Ended up on the rock ledges to the north of Clevedon after the man in the Portishead tackle shop said the tide was a bit low to head to Severn Beach and I had the dog with me so didn't fancy a congested battery point. Lots of other anglers buying bait who were reporting successes on the cod. Fished a cocktail of sqid and black lug on pennel rigs but didn't even get a bite. Mark looked good and bottom seemed clean as I didn't get any snags. Fished 1.5hrs on the incoming tide into darkness and then about 45min of the outgoing tide before it got too strong and even the grip leads weren't holding. Now need to decide whether to try there again or try a different location next time out. Anyone else had success in the Bristol Channel recently?
  5. Anyone needing shooting done, still looking for permissions.
  6. Thanks for the info guys. Time has run away from me over the holidays to get out but will try next weekend, weather conditions dependant, and let you know how I get on. Cheers, Ruaraidh
  7. Has anyone had any success fishing from shore on the Bristol Chanel so far this winter? I'm planning on heading there to try for some cod for the first time next week and was wondering if there is any chance of catching anything? Any advice on locations would be welcome as it's a new venue for me following a house move. I was thinking of the Portishead area and any details on where to go would be useful? Thanks, Ruaraidh
  8. Just been posted to the Swindon area for 9 months. Looking to do a bit of pigeon shooting if I can find any permissions. Should anyone need assistance on their permission please let me know. I'm more than happy to sit in the quieter areas to keep the birds moving, just like getting out. I have SGC, insurance, hide, decoys etc. Thanks, Ruaraidh
  9. Thanks for the responses guys. Will it reduce the fuel economy due to a smaller tyre having to turn more to maintain the same speed?
  10. I need to buy four new tyres for my discovery 3. Currently have 235/70/R17 with load rating 111 and speed H Continental 4x4 contacts. Planning to buy some 50/50 on/off roads, like Grabber ATs, but options seem to be 235/65/R17. Is there any problems with putting 65 rather than 70 on to your car? Thanks, Ruaraidh
  11. Fished Hengistbury Head long groyne yesterday evening on the incoming tide for a couple of hours until darkness. Not a mackerel in sight. One fish caught, a red gurnard on a dexter wedge - returned for another day. Our baits, bluey and squid, weren't touched either on the bottom or with the float. Bit disappointing after the 20min fast walk along the beach each way but a lovely location to wet the lines.
  12. My wife rescued a puppy when she was working out in Saudi Arabia that had been abandoned and possibly abused. She fell in love with him and we brought him back to the uk and got a DNA test which came back as a saluki canan cross. Although not a working dog I've had him on the hide after the pigeons and beating on a small shoot quite happily. He generally retrieves pigeons he has seen come down and flushes pheasants etc. so I'm more than happy with him. Makes a great pet and good for going running with. Just need to watch him on the hares!
  13. Four yesterday in the rain =7845 (plus 5 ferrel)
  14. Thanks for the advice. Think I will get a pair of these: http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/odcct1na.html as I like the reinforced areas on them. Ruaraidh
  15. I'm in the market for a new pair of shooting trousers and am looking for any recommendations. Looking for something I can wear all year round for rough shooting/ decoying / beating/ out with the dog etc. I've had a look at these: http://www.paramo.co.uk/en-gb/garments/detail/index.php?pgc=NIKWAXANALOGYTROUSERSPAJAROMENS any one used them? Look like you can wear them all the time and not need over-trousers. Or http://www.ridgelineclothing.co.uk/Pages/High%20Performance/pintailpant.html any one use them? Can you wear them on their own or are they over-trousers? All suggestions/recommendations appreciated. Thanks, Ruaraidh
  16. What about these? http://www.gamebore.com/products/52/12g-evo Seem to punch out to a decent range, had better results with them than the English Sporting I was using previously.
  17. I once bagged 28 crows whilst out for pigeon. I always put one crow decoy on the edge of the pattern and come away with one or two. On this occasion they just kept coming (better than pigeon) with a mix of crows, rooks and jackdaws. They have better eyes than pigeon and quite often turn away while out of range so keep very still, even the barrels of your gun above the hide. Also recommend switching to 5 shot as a crow / rook is a bigger bird to bring down cleanly. If you can get one on a flapper that seemed to bring them in for me.
  18. Some pretty unpleasant photos at the link below of deer wonded by arrows. Some could also be caused by misplaced rifle shots but they are more likely to kill cleanly due to the energy imparted on impact, I also don't know of any responsible rifle shooters who take head shots at deer in the UK. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=deer+wounded+by+arrow&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YCXLUoTpGs-ihgfWpoHADA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA&biw=1024&bih=672#facrc=_
  19. Email sent this evening, automated response received, unlikely to get anything more. Certain producers at the BBC must have hated that she was selected by her peers to win, at least other sportsmen appreciated her achievements.
  20. Good to see Amber Hill winning Junior SPOTY for skeet shooting and also other mentions during the compilations, including George Digweed. Makes a change for mainstream media.
