  1. Iv had my CZ452 HMR for 8 years and seriously love the rifle, and the round. For the first 7years it had a 3-9x40 Bushnell scope. Brilliant scope and am seriously tempted to go back to it in all honesty. 'Upgraded' to a 6-24x50 IR Hawke which is a very nice scope indeed and i do get on much better pelting crows with it - but i really do miss the no-frills Bushnell for lamping rabbits..... No matter what women say - bigger most certainly isnt always better.
  2. +1 very happy with mine too. NM800 performances for less as 1/4 the price
  3. Gimlet has pretty much covered it. My gut is saying its a scope problem, almost definate if the groupping drifts but is still a consistant group. Iv a Hawke scope, i think they are very good for their costs - but its not as good as the Bushnell i changed from. But you can buy the most expensive scope on the market, if theres a fault you wont hit anything!!! As for zeroing, once every 12-18months, or whenever i change ammo brand/type just to check it fires the same as i had previously. Its a contentious issue but i dont clean my rifle (8 years and still going strong with no issues). Its a CZ452 Varmint with 20inch barrel.
  4. Its strange how different guns like different rounds..... my CZ452 is quite off with the Remington - missed more as i hit and i really wasn't happy with their knock-down on crows. Now on Hornady V-max and everything is keeling over B) my rifle also has a real thing for the CCI Gamepoints too....
  5. I went from a 3-9x40 to the same 6-24x50 scope you have on my HMR. Shooting rabbits, as others have said, 8-10x mag is plenty enough - daytime or night shooting. Only reason i 'upgraded' was for shooting crows as i struggled at 9x. I actually hated the larger scope when i put it on my rifle at the start, but got used to it and i get on much better now. Still never use the 24x mag, but it was being sold very cheap in a sale so went for it. Just need another rifle to accomodate my old 3-9x40........
  6. HAWKE NightForce Kahles Swarovski Nikon Schmidt & Bender Lecia Burris Bushnell Kaps Sightron Meotopa........
  7. I found out yesterday my left waterproof shooting boot has sprung a fatal leak in the sole My gfs reaction was to tell me John Norris down at Penrith has alot of things marked down to half price - and we will go this weekend. Get the feeling already i will be leaving the shop with my arms full..........
  8. Agree. Got my HMR (CZ452 Varmint) in 2006, god knows how many rounds i have put through her and iv never cleaned the inside of the barrel yet. Only problem with her grouping is when the t**t pulling the trigger has an off day keep the mod. well cleaned and bolt clean and oiled then just wipe the rifle down every now and again and she does perfect.
  9. Another vote here for a Hawke 6-24x50. For rabbit work iv found i dont need any more as 10x magnification (used a Bushnell 3-9x40 for the previous 6 years on the HMR), but the higher mag comes into its own for long range carrion work.
  10. +1 Im a leftie, but i shoot off my right shoulder - rifle and shotgun, its always just felt more natural and my right eye is the more dominant. I can and do shoot my rifle off left shoulder from time to time and the right-hand bolt has never been much of an issue. Rifle is a CZ, but in HMR calibre.
  11. Hey all. Joined on here a couple days ago after quite a while lurking as a non-member.... Im an upland beef and sheep farmer by day, bunny basher by night. Born and bred in the hills of the Dumfriesshire valley, iv been around shooting in one form or another almost all my life - with my attentions aimed at rabbits, crows and the occasional fox. With some clays blasted for fun.
  12. "When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!" Cheers for the insight - i was/am dubious about LED's and filters, but my thinking was the handiness of switching colours for different situations (at a comparitive bargain compared to the NM800 which is 3 times the price!). There are one or two on Ebay which may well do but your buying in the dark as it were with no reviews or feedback as to how good the products are. Im not really in the position to buy anything right now (although i could push myself if i thought it was very reasonably priced), i have a long term drain on my resources who says holidays are more important then toys for my gun but id like to know whats the best suited item for my requirements (.17HMR shooting rabbits ideally red light at least - possibly having green light too? and covering a range of 100-150yards) and the sortof price itl cost me so i can start to plan my finances. I would be grateful if you were to PM me some info of what you have to offer Dave. I didnt really want to contact you straight off as im just new on here
  13. Was going to start a thread similar to this one (have read the older threads too)...... have a .17HMR too, been using a Logun lamp but the battery is past its best so looking to upgrade to LED..... Lots of choice but it leaves me abit lost! Have been looking at a PAO LumenMax 225: http://riflesandrods.co.uk/index.php/pao-hunting-lamp.html it SOUNDS like it could be a really good buy - whats the forums opinions?
