Rabbit Shot with .22-250 55gr Taipan HP
Browning replied to ashleybrook's topic in Sporting Shooting Videos
Markbivvy asks why not ? Because I can see no reason whatsoever for the need to shoot rabbits with a .22-250 or a .223. We all talk about respecting our quarry (well most do!), and in my mind there is absolutely no respect at all shown to your quarry if you blow it to bits. If you want to show off your marksmanship, shoot at paper targets, where you can prove how good, or how bad, your marksmanship is. Or maybe it's just a total lack of fieldcraft that people have to use those means to kill for fun. -

I'm interested in knowing which make of brass so you guys use for reloading ? Especially for .243. I always used to buy Federal "once fired" for the .222 and .22-250, but I've been out of reloading for a few years. Any advice much appreciated

My Speer book only lists n160 for 100grain Spitzers and Grand Slams. The heaviest Boat Tail that lists n160 is 85grain.

Old Rooster, I'd be up for a couple of thousand if we can get it sorted, I'm not far from you.

Does anyone know what the ideal pattern placement should be for a sporting shotgun ? I patterned my new 682 on Sunday and at 20 yards (Thats the distance I was told it should be patterned at) the pattern spread was 2/3 below & 1/3 above target. I'm not one for fiddling with things, but seeing as it has an adjustable stock it would be easy to raise/lower the comb if the pattern placement is not ideal.

You should be OK to bring back ammo as long as you 1. Notify the airline in advance (Not all airllines will allow you to carry firearms/ammo) 2. Have it in a locked box 3. Have your firearms certificate with you 4. Allow extra extra time to get through customs at both ends

Chill out Hesky, you'll soon realise that posts by Hill Billy are predominantly ********, with a sprinkling of **** and a topping of fantasy for good measure. Only last week his "pigeon shot in the eye" story was actually 110 yards to the foot of the Oak tree, and it was his Grandad and Dad that wanted him to "Scare" the bird out to see if it would fly back to them.

YP, Go straight to Nominet (www.nominet.net) and ask them. They look after all domain names for the UK. Their general support email address is nominet@nominet.org.uk

Aubs, I have an L200 and can't fault it. Great for carrying all the **** that you take when shooting, great for a couple of wet & muddy dogs, and still great for taking the "Mrs" out for dinner as the front stays nice and clean. I decided to get mine after looking around for 6 months and talking to lots of 4 x 4 owners, and the L200 just came out above the Navara (in my personal poll !) as a good all rounder. PM me if you want to know any specifics. Good Luck.

Oxfordshire/Warwickshire/Northamptonshire borders. A very nice part of the country.

Difficult to see but there are 6 youngsters.

Thought I'd post some pics of some live stuff for a change....photos I took this lunchtime whilst walking the dogs round a new patch of land I've been given permission to shoot on. Sorry for the quality, all I had was my phone camera.

It's in the June edition. Good Luck

Darren, There's an article in this months Sporting Gun that covers exactly your problem. Unfortunately the writer didn't come up with a definitive answer. What he did find though was that his lab stopped dropping for a shake when he retreived cold pigeon & pheasant rather than a dummy. Might be worth a try.

Rarms, The serial numbers on both my Ultra XS and my 425 follow the same format. i.e. 12345XX Your pics are the same action as my 425, but with different engraving. That could be down to the Grade, mine is a Grade 1, with basic scrolling, but I believe the higher grades had better engraving as well as woodwork.

Barrie0, If you're going to Francis Lovells, I'd nip round the corner to Adenbourne as well. I've always found them more responsive to a "deal" than Francis Lovell.

Hornet, I don't have spare RCBS kit, but I have a spare Lee press, scales & powder measure if you're interested.

This time of year I'd probably not shoot them at all but I like the farmers to see me about regularly, doing what they gave me permission to do.....keeping vermin down. I have to admit at this time of year I am very selective and limit myself to shooting 3/4 grown rabbits. So far I haven't had any pregnant does. If I knew how to tell the difference through a 9x scope at 60 yards I'd only shoot the bucks. Can anyone offer advice on sexing a rabbit at that distance at this time of year ?

Hi Brian, I had a Remmy VSSF in .22-250 for about 5 years, and apart from it being quite heavy, I got on with it very well. In 5 years it never let me down, and accounted for quite a few Pennine foxes ! After the initial messing about with loads I finally settled it down and was very pleased with the accuracy. Having said that........I now have a Tikka T3 in .243 and I love it ! The quality of manufacture is easy to see, and the out of box accuracy, even with factory loads is brilliant.

Hi Baz, I checked that, Beretta now only supply four Optima chokes with the 682. 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and Cylinder. If you have spare Optima chokes lying around PM with what you have and how much you want for them, I'd be interested in Full, 1/4 and Cylinder. Cheers, Brownetta

Well seeing as I have Beretta, Browning, Tikka, CZ and Webley & Scott in the cabinet I was thinking more along the lines of changing my name to BerTikWebScoBroC

Thanks for all your replies lads, I took the plunge and bought it last night. As far as I can see it's mint, not a mark on it, complete with four Optima chokes, solid case, full toolkit, spare trigger, adj stock key etc etc. I'll see how it shoots for me on the Compact tonight. Now all I need is a new gun cabinet............damn 32" barrels are too long to fit through the door of my cabinet....I have to take the chokes out to get it in.... :*) :*)

Just seen Swallows around the farm buildings, first time this year. Also noticed the bats were out last night when I walked the dogs, first time I've noticed them this year.
