currently my springer pup is 15 1/2 weeks old , i,m still feeding her 3 times a day on dried puppy food ( chudleys at the mo ).
when do you reckon she should drop down to 2 feeds a day
and
when should i put her on to a juniour feed( slightly less protein )

retrieve is good she,ll pick it but not bring it back .
but to be honest i,m really struggling with the plain recall with bumper or not .
she ignores me most of the time when i try and get her attention and wont come to me . just jogs off
i,m doing something wrong , but god knows what , the rest of the time she all over me playing and sits at my feet all night so i know she likes me .
tried clapping , whistle , squeaky voice etc . not sure what to try next

cheers Dan - i hoped you,d reply .
i really would like her to bring the ball back to me and want to bring it back to me .
tried sitting in the hall legs apart , with tennis ball , she,ll fetch it fine and come back towards me , but then she trys to dash round the side of me and get past , while still holding the ball .
i dont want to snatch it off her , as she already as a good grip on it . should i try and swap her for treats ??.
i didnt know wether to continue play retrieving or not as i remember with the lab you can over kill it ..
she loves carry things around ( constantly ) ie toys and sometimes collects them up in her little den under the coffe table.
previously she was kenneled with her bro's and sis at the breeders house before i got her last weekend .
cheers

Isuzu Trooper 3.1 TD swb , metalic dark green , tow bar etc etc .
This would make some one an ideal shooting wagon or off roader.
its ran out of tax and MOT ( sept 26 2008 ) and just sitting on my drive .
every thing works perfect , gear box , engine are brill , starts first time .
Its in overall good condition for a K plate thats done 211,000 miles , the engine oil pressure is spot on and i recon its got another 100,000 left in it.
on its last MOT it failed on the hand break , which was fixed , but as slipped again , its either cables or shoes in the hand break drum i,m told and thats it.
its way too good to scrap , so i,m hoping some one here may want it .
i,m looking for £300 driven away which i think if you had to spend double that on getting it on the road will still be a bargain .
if anyones interested i,m on the A52 at NG12 , come and have a look .
thanks all ..

i have been looking around to try and find decent food at decent price . i recieved today a large box of samples from chudleys (dodson and horrell.)
including some ferret food as well .
will keep my lot fed for a few days .
im having trouble finding a better priced food containing glucosamine and chrondoition .
one of my mutts wont eat the museli variety . spits the flaked maize out .
Gav -- how did you manage to get hold of the free samples .
please tell mate
cheers

i have a lab mate and he's great was easy to train
but
i,ve just bought a springer pup as well , shes completely different to how the lab was , she's totally mental
just hope a bit of training and time will calm her down and turn her into a decent rough shooting , beating and pigeon dog
-
good site mate
what do you estimate it costs per dog per week to feed , i,m guessing a lot more than normal dog food , but obviously much better for them .
cheers

Pups ok with raw eggs?
-
puppy food -- is there anything in the different brands OR is one better than the other or all the same
what do you recommend
being given pedigree chum by the breeder as a starter for the spaniel , but think i used chuddleys or beta on my lab when he was a pup ( cant remember now )
cheers

being doing recalls today , no problem but after left her with a few toys and she picked them up and hid them one by one in the exact same spot .
when i recovered them and plonked them on the floor , she did it again tidy up and storeing them in the same place.
whats that all about

NTTF -- have you got a puppy basics post on here , its been 6 years
she's 13 weeks and as done nothing apart from play retrieving , only got her last night , not even paper trained so got my work cut out
i read in some book a while back not to start to train a springer until it was around 8 months which sounded wrong !!!!
-
this may seem like a novice kind a question -- but at what age would you start training a ESS , and would you do anything different at that age that you would,nt do with a lab..
thanks

just to add they where both fed on the LITE food and both have the dandruff , but surely this would have passed by now ..
-
oil content is lower in the chudleys lite about half of that of the usuall stuff and protein was higher
-
thats a good question mate .
i did change there food yes for a while to a low fat one "CHUDLEYS LITE" to try and get a few pounds off the lab because of his leg problem , when normally i would feed them chudleys classic or the vat free Gilpa .
there back on there old stuff now though and have been for about 2/3 weeks . looking back at the dates it would have started while they where on the LITE food

so what was the final verdict on A. working dog insurance B. gun dog insurance C. pet insurance
saying working dog indicates there is payment ( which is not always the case )
surely most of use have "gun dogs" , the term is just a class of dog like ie . terrier , lots of people have labs and springers as pets .
when phoning for a quote , what is the correct term to use :- i have a working lab , a gun dog lab , just a lab
-
i,m also thinking of housing my dogs out side , but of course cost and space is an issue .
mosa - do you have a link or a pic of your setup , the price sounds good .
cheers

right update -- on inspection the vet said , he could not detect a parasite or cause for this really bad dandruff in both my dogs coats.
he sold me some shampoo and said give them a good grooming ( which i do anyway ).
so i,ve shampoo'd the dogs and gave them a good groom BUT its still there , theres a lot LESS scratching ( which is good ) still a little bit but no where near as much .
I am wondering as the vet got it wrong , how can 2 different dogs have the same skin problem if it is not a parasite
what do you think .
thanks all .
