  1. The guy I normally shoot with every few weeks or so has now cancelled until after Christmas.....so in need of new friends.....sounds desperate. Wanting to shoot this Sunday morning first thing but don't know whether to go to cocketts or East Midlands shooting ground (never been before) I live in nottingham 38 years old...shoot like **** but love making the gun go bang
  2. How was borders wood today? Wish I could have made it but daughters not too well....somewhere I have always wanted to go and to say I only live 30 mins away it's a shame not to
  3. You'll have to give me a shout when you go...always fancied it myself. Iv heard you have to trap for yourself
  4. So why the price hike? Talking to a local club they blamed it on brexit for having to put prices up and looking around everywhere seems to have increased the prices.....always previously gone to countryman in derby but it'll cost me another £20 per 1000..... Not the end of the world I know just means I'll be out less each month
  5. I know brexit was going to have some adverse effects on things but cartridge prices have rocketed. It's a shame wages don't go up to suit. I know it'll be hard to judge but I'm hoping this price rise isn't here to stay. Anyone have any recommendations on some cheaper end cartridges. Not been shooting that long so don't need anything too expensive. In Nottingham but don't mind travelling
  6. Thanks chaps some good advice...just frustrating when guys your out with who have only been shooting a fraction of the time that I have and they are thrashing the pants off you
  7. I really hope I get to see him within the next few weeks...I'm at my wits end with it all
  8. We'll what a disastrous 50 shots....came home and told the wife that's it the guns going up for sale....an hour later iv emailed ed Solomon for a lesson. Desperate measures and all that....looking at his twitter feed though I may have to wait a while
  9. Sometimes it feels so natural shooting both eyes open but others I haven't got a clue where the barrels are...I work on computers all day in a very stressful environment and I'm wondering if I have a differing eye dominance. Similar to the red eye mentioned about I bought some opaque sticky paper from eBay and put a small 10mm x 10mm square on the left lense of my glasses so it blanks out the bead....I'll give that a try as it feels so uncomfortable completely shutting my left eye
  10. Yes right hand dominant....had loads of lessons so far probably allot more than most. Thought of trying to put a small opaque patch on my left lens of glasses just large enough to blank out the bead
  11. I was so close last weekend to just calling it a day. I think I'm struggling shooting both eyes open. Some days it seems so natural but others I haven't got a clue what's going on...I know all the focus is to be on the clay but I haven't got where the barrels are positioned so don't know where I'm missing
  12. I'll be visiting on my own on Sunday......for the sporting though it says the traps are not operated by trappers? How would this work for me though
  13. So tempted to dip my toe in although after the appalling shooting I did last night I probably won't do a great job at hitting any pigeons
  14. Think I might give it a go...hope they are easy targets though as I'm shooting cr#p at the moment
  15. I'm very interested in some of your lessons...sent you a private message
  16. I was looking at that last night....think I'll send an email and request some further advice
  17. Some very good hints and tips.....allot to look into and I like the sound of a pigeon shooting club. I'll take a look and see if I can find anything in the Nottingham area
  18. Plenty of opportunity to come shooting with you then one day......my missus would go barmy at me and I don't think the bank manager would be too happy. Seriously though it's a shame there isn't a syndicate near me I can join would be nice to go like every other week
  19. Hi i am completely new to all this but pigeon shooting is something i want to seriously consider. I have been shooting for about 1 1/2 years now. I own my own gun and licence and have been shooting clays only in the time that i have been shooting but moving into this is something i want to seriously consider. Although its fun shooting clays but as i often go on my own this can be a little daunting and i thought that this is something that i can do on my own when ever i feel like going without the restraints of opening times and busy periods at the club etc. I normally shoot 50 clays once a week or once every other week. How often do people go pigeon shooting? i wasn't sure if it was something that a land owner would want you to do strictly once a week or twice a week etc
  20. It's something that I'v been thinking about over the last couple of weeks....really wouldn't know where to start though. Have been shooting for about 1 1/2 years now own gun and licence etc seems an ideal type of shooting to do on my own as well as the occasional clays...ok shooting clays but don't know that many people which is a bit off putting when you go on your but I guess with shooting pigeons it's best done on your own
  21. I've been shooting my silver pigeon now with something just not feeling right. When mounting I've only just realised how much I had to push my head forward to get the 2 finger measurement between the tip of my nose and the second knuckle of my thumb. When remounting the gun with my eyes shut and not really pulling it into my shoulder with my cheek hard down on the stock my nose and thumb are miles away from each other. How much do others pull the gun into the shoulder.....I've never really thought about it before. I've ordered a thinner recoiled pad to see if it helps
  22. Iv never been anywhere where you need to button for yourself....how does it work?.....the other one I was thinking of is East Midlands shooting ground
  23. Anyone done the 100 bird sporting at Borders Wood near nottingham?....just wondered what it was like for a newby at sporting
