  1. Sorry for the thread revival but I've just had a C&H come into my possession - I'm an RFD now - and like many, I'm struggling to date / identify this particular model. Serial number is 56821 and the barrels are inscribed 168 Piccadilly. London. I know they moved there is 1927 and 127 is now the Cavalry & Guards Club. 30" Barrels, 14 3/4" Stock, 2 1/2Chamber. Yes, I know... someone has been at those screws with a blunt pickaxe... I can only put a rough date range of circa 1932. Proof markings confirm London 1925 - 1954 Any help appreciated.
  2. I could have not said about the sleeping tablets, but I know it could have been checked and then the situation would be worse, so I did what I thought was the best and was honest. So, by doing this, it has now caused more problems from reading various replies above and I don't get that - isn't honesty always the best policy??
  3. Thinking in the cold light of day having slept on it, I can see the police position to a certain extent: They had a report that I had guns in the house and obviously had a duty to investigate. I would be very surprised if they had not checked on a computer to see if I did or did not hold a valid SGC so one can assume that they did know that I do hold a valid 'ticket' but still had to check. During the course of the conversation / inspection when it was mentioned if I was on any medication - as previously described I am - stuff for gout, painkillers from a recent operation and said sleeping tablets - this must of caused concern that coupled with the report, regardless of it being unfounded, they had to do what they did. Having spoken to a close friend, the general thought is that the report was made knowing the likely reaction - in a village it's a bit of a talking point to see armed police turning up at a Parish Councillor's house. I may be wrong, but I think spite played a major part in this.
  4. I have spoken to my Dr and they are fully on side. It is not a legal requirement to do so I believe? I was a member of the NGO when I was running my shoot, but not at the moment as I do not (and have not) shot for a number of years. If I were to go back to shooting seriously, then I would re-join.
  5. Sadly, not in any association anymore
  6. OK, so long story short: Ex left 2 weeks ago and today at 5pm, I had a ARV team turn up as they "Had a report" I had guns in the house. They said where the guns were kept and wanted to have a look. I explained I had a SGC and was more than happy to get the keys to open my cabinet and show them my SGC as well. They were very polite and asked if I was on any medication - I said yes, stuff for gout, painkillers for my recent operation and sleeping tablets due to stress. They have now impounded my guns subject to a SGC review. They checked all the numbers against my ticket and all was OK, but why do I feel I'm the one in the wrong?
  7. Even as a newbie on the forum, I would be interested in the 100 day. Mind you, I'd probably only scare a few birds as haven't been out for a number of years... Even so, I feel I'd be doing my 'bit' for the economy by spending money on cartridges.
  8. Sure this has been covered many times before - it's like newbies on a Land Rover forum asking what's the biggest tyre they can fit on a gaylander - so my apologies! Want to start re-loading. Where do you start? Is there an idiots guide to reloading? ATM, only looking at SG Carts but will move to centrefire at some point - well, that is the plan.. I have purchased a RTO from a member on here, so the collection has started, but what else do you need? TIA

What is this strange contraption of which you speak?
  10. What about Mossberg? Been looking around and they seem to be hardly ever mentioned...
  11. I have a selection of them that are surplus to requirements - free to good home!
  12. Thanks for the replies and assistance chaps. I've found both Clay & Game and SG Reloading on the interwebnet but not Myers or Deakin, any clues? Clearly, a decent idiots guide to reloading is required, so which book would you suggest? Sorry to ask so many basic / daft questions but I am (obviously) new to the whole re-loading thing! Do I also need any form of storage / purchase licence for this?
  13. No, I know... I'm more interested in original fowling pieces than modern Spanish stuff.... I do have one original (and un-fired) 8B cartridge....will get a pic of it
  14. Bit of advice if I may ask: Some years ago, I purchased an old AYA Matador that had been opened up to an 8 Bore. I got it as a bit of a talking point and never actually fired it in anger as could never find any cartridges. I sold it for £20 more than I paid for it and that was that. Now I'd love another and see you can actually get kit to re-load your own cartridges. However I have never even thought or considered doing home re-loading, so: A. Where do you start? B: Is doing larger bore a waste of time? C: Am I being stupid? I haven't identified a new 8B yet - there are a few around that I keep looking at....
  15. As I have just brought 17 meters of ridge tiles for £196...... I'll let you judge! Note: these are on a new build I'm doing so may not be comparable
  16. Cheers Figgy, I will try and find him
  17. Ok, so we have a selection to look at. What we don't have over here is a gun trader who has the ability to let you try before you buy. Based on the fact I'm on a small rock floating in the Solent, where on the big norf isle can this be done?
  18. Yeah, the Oil o Woi.... surrounded by water, no 'fowling!
  19. I thought the after-service for Baikel was less than ideal? Sure I read that on here somewhere...
  20. Wildfowling out of a RIB is probably frowned upon, but I would love to have a go at Punt Gunning....
  21. Many options then... I like the sound of a short barrel semi - I'm not a fan of long barrels in general Maybe a selection....
  22. Sorry, should have said: About £700 - £800 I was looking at Hatsans but have read various reports that seem to suggest they maybe a bad idea. Ditto Mossberg - they do seem reasonable for the money
  23. I'm sure this has been done to death previously, so my apologies for starting yet another... Having not opened my gun cabinet for at least 4 years after falling out of love with shooting, I have got the itch again... When I paced up, I stupidly sold both my John McNab O/U's in 20 Bore - I went down to 20B as I found them quicker than my SxS Grosable Sidelock which I still have (along with a couple of other SxS's which are pretty much scrap) I am looking for 20B O/U again, but I'm fairly sure I know what I want with this, so not a problem. I am looking for a Semi Auto or maybe even a Pump (maybe both!) for general use - it must cover as many aspects as possible: Clays / Pigeon / Wildfowl / Duck Flighting - And the missus wants to try clays as well, so we could end up with needing a bigger cabinet. Discuss....
