  1. Phoned at 8am this morning, saw the Doctor at 11:10am. Never fails… Mind you I am on immunosupressants and under 6 different consultants at the minute, if I was a horse they would shoot me!
  2. They have released the most popular names for babies in 2024 and Muhammed is no1 for boys. This worries me.

    Ah well.

@Westley as I always tell people, the lead is only dangerous at high velocity.
  4. Red696

    Ah well.

there must be someone on here who remembers it when it only had a castle

    Ah well.

the pressure drop is deliberate, it reduces the leakage. Therefore UU can report the reduction, hit their ODI and claim a financial reward all without fixing any leaks. Only works up to a point, when the whole of the area is at minimum pressure they have no option other than to start digging.. new developments impact sewers much more than they do supply.

    Assisted dying

if you had ever watched terminally ill suffer in agony due to our ‘religiously’ derived laws you wouldn’t be making that comment on the attempt to change the situation. I agree with you on capital punishment but it has no place in this debate
  8. “Family Farm” or in truth Family Business…. Not sure any other Family Business benefits from the same taxable rate & allowance? Yes £500k to offspring @ 40% taxable rate. Now lets pretend “Family Farm” is not a busines, so is £500k fair in comparison to Farmers?
  9. they don’t tax anyone for dying, never have done…. It’s the living that get taxed, although I agree IHT should not exist. It should fall under the Capital Gains tax regime were the tax is only payable if the gain is realised in a sale. 9% on 20% with an allowance of £1 million is still a better deal than 28 days at 40% on an allowance of £350,000
  10. Lets not miss the fact that they have 10 years to pay the 20% IHT, whereas others have only 28 days to pay 40% IHT. oh those poor hard done to Farmers 😢

    Dementia

I’ve had several family members lost to this dreadful condition. In their lucid moments it is a joy to have them return, and in the bad moments it is comfort to know they are not aware how unwell they are.. Remaining at home alone is really not an option, and imo moving to a care setting is best done early as it saves avoidable trauma to MIL and yourselves. Your wife would lose all of herself if she moves in to provide care, I’ve seen that happen and recovery is long and difficult. Dementia was described to me as; our memory is a tall bookcase with recent memory on the highest shelf, dementia gets the bookcase rocking and the books at the top fall off never to be replaced whilst the books lower down remain accesible. Thats why she remembers her earlier years. Wishing you all well in whatever you decide.

    Petition

IHT for farming: 20% taxable rate with an allowance of £1million pound, to be paid over a 10 year installment plan ( with interest payable ) IHT for anyone else: 40% taxable rate with an allowance of £350,000, to be paid within 28 days of inheritance oh those poor hard done to targeted Farmers…. It makes you weep don’t it

    Petition

This is obviously going to upset many on this thread… Farmers should not be exempt from a tax that many many others have to pay, nor should they have more favourable terms not available to others that pay IHT.
