Quarry duck and geese are currently in season, and since you are shooting in England where the non toxic regs. are species rather than land type based as in Scotland, you will most definitely need NON TOXIC shot.

Just a thought mate, as a newcomer to shooting you might want to visit the BASC website where you can obtain all the info. you need for free. You can also check out whether the birds you are talking about are actually quarry species.

I`m not suggesting for one minute that you would, but it can be very tempting not to use non toxic shot. The downside to that is that, if caught, you will just hasted the abolition of lead across the board.

Good luck with your duck shooting.

The inland duck shooting season lasts from September 1st to January 31st. You will have to use bismuth, hevi- shot , tungstun matrix or steel cartridges. Steel is by far the cheapest , but in a 2 3\4 chamberd gun has a fairly short effective range , Not more than 40 yards. You also must have 1\2 or less chokes or you risk barrel damage. Use Number 3 shot in steel or 5s or 6s in the other non - toxic shot.
