terry b
hello all there is a bit of talk about grey import guns on the forum,i have a berreta silver pigeon which i believe was origenly bought from kelbrooke in lancs is there anyway i can tell if it is a grey import, although the gun itself seems fine.are grey imports a sub standard version of the real thing or is it a serial number issue cheers Terry b
BlaserF3
Grey imports should have no mechanical difference at all. You just have no warranty apart from The Sale of Goods Act unless the retailer has his own warranty. A few years ago I bought a grey import motorbike, the dealer had his own warranty, which was never needed.
kdubya
if the goods are purchased from a UK commercial seller you have a reasonable expectation that the goods comply with UK spec & are covered by warranty. If not then the retailer must either accept the return of the goods & refund or re-supply you with goods that do The warranty is the responsibility of the seller & not the manufacturer although most european countries now adopt a borderless guarantee KW
viking
ring GMK and tell them the serial number and they will tell you if it was imported by them or not, my understanding is its just about the warrenty, i think with a new beretta its 3 years with the option of a 10 year for a few quid, but with grey imports it will be just the standard shops 1 year, and unbeknown to you, no option for the 10 year warrenty, like i said before, if someone said look mate this gun is £200 cheaper but its a grey import, then you make your own mind up and take your chances, but when your paying full price and presuming its a oficial GMK imported gun and then find out its not, then you get 2 little pricks talking to you like your a muppet, my blood is boiling as we speak, so i will shut up before i say something i shouldnt, again,

Vince Green
The term grey import is one of those expressions that main agents like to use sneeringly to describe guns that have been sourced by the dealer from another main agent somewhere in europe. This is perfectly legal and above board and wouldn't be necessary if the main agents in this country didn't rip dealers off. It no way implies they are in any way substandard. We live in a global market these days and you can choose where you buy goods from. If an agent in Holland is offering a better price than the agent in Britain then fine.
