Blunderbuss
I would be interested in paying the going rate to join a small friendly rough shooting syndicate. Mainly walked up, maybe with a few birds released, plus whatever legit wild quarry fur and feather is available. I would be happy to get my hands dirty and help out on work parties etc. Do such opportunities exist? How do you find them (tried guns on pegs - either driven shoots out of my price range or too far away)? And what would be the going rate for such a shoot if I did find one? mark the hat
hi m8 yes such opportunities do exist i am a member of 3 so called rough shooting syndicates, cheshire, wigan, north wales, and the going rate seems to be anything from 300 to 400 a year and a couple that i didnt join wanted 450 for the year, try the farmers newspapers and alike mags and so on,try farmers markets, cattle markets, its a shame you live in glouestershire i could have put you in touch with a bloke that has places goin in chester and north wales for a rough shoot and also has the odd driven shoot/fox drive, dont give up keep trying cheers mark
Blunderbuss
Cheers for the info Mark, sounds encouraging. I was born and raised in Chester, but don't get back there very often unfortunately. If I could find something like that locally, I'd be quite happy to pay that sort of figure. Out of interest, on these shoots: what quarry is there? Are any birds put down? What sort of acreage do you shoot over? Do you get involved with work parties? How often do you shoot? Sorry to bombard you with questions, just interested in seeing what involved
mark the hat
hi dave no problem with the questions piddy, crow, rabbit, duck, fox on all and plenty of em and yes on the north wales one birds are put down and we have 2 drives a year, not my cup of tea but its there and i've paid my fee's so why not this one is 365 acres, and wigan 1 is 200, and the cheshire one is 1200 and it's piddy city on that one. only been on a couple of work parties on the north wales one because of work commitments, and i'd rather be shooting when i get out. i try and get out most weekends sat or the sun and twice a month doin the lamping game for mr reynard, and the bunnies just keep trying you will get something and you might get some one fromm off here to take you out or sort you out down your neck of the woods(no pun intendid) mark Edited November 8, 2009 by mark the hat

rimfire4969
Our syndicate is £350 per season plus about 10 work days, 250 birds released, shooting about 10 days plus boundry days and vermin / pigeon all year about 700 acres, at ours you must have BASC or simular insurance and a working dog. Got told about this syndicate in the pub.

And replied to :yp: use to shoot for a Magistrate a couple of years back, plenty of orchards and land, loads or rabbits, pigeon, crow and the river Avon runs right through his land,so you get plenty of duck/geese in season,i dont bother anymore as its too far for me,but i think i can dig out his details, cant promise 100% but i think i still have them somewhere, might be worth a visit, like i say it was a couple of years ago, things could have changed ,but he was a very decent sort of chap,if i find them out i can PM them to you and you can sort it for yourself, think it might just be an address, but it wont be hard to find its the size of a stately home

Cheers and its not on my doorstep, use to travel from Windsor the shooting was that good seems a waste to keep something i might never use, when someone more local could use it use to have some more shooting that way,Broadway golf club ,will see if i can dig the number out for you(excellent rabbit shooting)especially on the driving range, will sort through my contacts folder tomorrow for you,see what i have in way of numbers etc.Use to shoot upto 100 rabbits a day in the fruit season, use to drop them at the falconry centre on the way home. The top falconer put us in contact with freinds of his at the Cotswolds wildlife park, and got us shooting the rabbits there in way of thanks for the rabbits for his birds,so it goes to show once you get the initial foot through the door,it can lead to bigger things will pm you what i have tomorrow B) BB

Blunderbuss
blunderbuss are you after any shooting or something a bit more game orientated nick Both TBH, but particularly keen on finding some affordable game shooting for next season. A small syndicate, rough or walk and stand would be ideal and I don't mind weekend work parties etc. But, because I am a recent "born again" who's been out of shooting for years, and because I'm new to this area with few local contacts, I'm keen to find ANY shooting. I do have some pigeon shooting (on hold till the game season finishes) and a couple of beaters days at the end of the month, but that's it. I'd also be keen to find some rabbit shooting nearby.
