vinnie83
Hi all, I've got a quick question about my gun, it's a Beretta 686s. I got it from a friend of a friend, it's in great condition but recently has suffered from something which I don't know is normal or not. This gun works off the recoil of the 1st shot to load the 2nd shot. Recently I've noticed it won't load the 2nd unless I use a 28g cartridge, anything lighter is (forgive the pun) hit and miss. My question is, is this normal, or is there something wrong with the gun? I've only had it about 6 months and I can't remember what load I shoot every time I go, so can't remember if I never had this problem before because I was always using 28g or whether I used to use lighter loads and still never had the problem. Thanks. :o
tweedledee
my 686e started doing the same but i tested other 28g shells and i had no bother.i just put it down to an iffy carton of shells.it was only happening the odd time. foggy11
You may find the inertia bob weight inside is a little gummed up with oil and or dust ect.... If you take the stock off and give a good swill out with WD 40 and make sure every thing is moving smoothly.... That should do the trick...... All mine work fine with 21 and even 19 gram loads.... Cheers.. Nik...
COACH
It is common I`m afraid, especially with the older guns but some of the newer ones do it as well. It needs to go to the gun smith to be tweaked so that it will shoot the 24g and 21g, but it`s quite a cheap job. If your having trouble with recoil then it`s well worth it. vinnie83
Thanks, so it's as I thought, I'll pop it over to a gunsmith. How much am I looking at to get it sorted? I'm not bothered about the recoil, I just prefer to buy the cheaper cartridges for clay shooting to keep costs down.

Are you sure you are letting the pressure off the trigger after the first shot, if you don't this causes the same problem as I have found to my embarisment. :o

I think a trip to the gunsmith is in order. Anyone recommend anywhere around Leicester? the only one I know of is Kibworth
utectok
in my experience it's either a dirty action ( take off butt wash action with petrol and reoil needs doing about once a season). Or it is one of the inertia springs weak or broken easy to replace and a few pence if the cleaning routine doesn't work.
