Bazooka Joe
I'm on making a Pigeon Magnet at the moment, & have acquired a windscreen motor off a Peugeot 306. I've got it stripped the way I want it, & have the wires ready to connect. There are 3 x White, a Blue, & a Green & Yellow. The Green & Yellow connected with one of the white, is slow, Green & Yellow connected with the Blue, is a little bit faster, & the Blue with the White is the fastest. The other two White don't seem to do anything at all ? ________________________________________________________________________ I have a Inverter that I run my Lathe off, 240v-3 phase, & it has a speed control, (Remote POT) bought out of Maplins. My Question; This Remote Pot, can it only be used for 240v/3 Phase, or can it be used for 12v ? Swapping the wires about I can only get the motor to turn when I have the Remote Pot fully clockwise, as far as it can go. Or do I need a 12v speed controller, specifically for a 12v system ? BJ. deny essex
I cant help specificly with the wireing colours on the motor but you can count one of the colours if you can sort it as the ground /earth, and one other of the colours will be a motor stop position for the wipers. As for speed controler you will need a 12 volt one that handles the correct max output loading of 3amp or better.
monkeymagic1969
BJ - I tried all ways to make a a car motor magnet work with various controllers, the only ones that work are dedicated 12V controllers - The ones off Ebay work quite well and we also made are own with parts from Maplins ( took in a controller and they took it apart and gave me a list of components needed)

That's what I need to know, I thought when the motor would only run when the Pot was on full. own with parts from Maplins ( took in a controller and they took it apart and gave me a list of components needed Yep MM, Maplins here I come, the last Pot was only about £2:50, so up till now this magnet standing at nearly zilch BJ. al4x
can you strip the wire further I'd imagine go further and you should be able to get it down to two wires
Bazooka Joe
can you strip the wire further I'd imagine go further and you should be able to get it down to two wires Hi Alex, no I doubt it, I'm not wanting to dismantle it further, all the five wires go inside the wiper motor. Basically just wanting to control the speed, I'll be in a better position when I get another 12v Pot at Maplins, BJ.
Paul223
Have a look for a pulse width modulation kit, if you use common ( the same ) wiring connectors the controller can be used for lamping too, as a dimmer Edited December 7, 2009 by Paul223
bigstevouk
pop down a car brakers and get a heater switch, they usually have in built resistors thus able to control the speed...
Bazooka Joe
Thank you for contacting Maplin Technical Support, Unfortunatley nothing we have is suitable for your application I'm afraid, I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Looks like Maplins out then, anyone tried this & sorted it, Noted;;; The "pulse width modulation kit", & the "heater switch", starting to get techy now, must be something basic that'll do, being plans for the Magnet for a good while now, & the recommended motor (wiper), BJ. Sorted....Thanks for Looking, BJ. Edited December 8, 2009 by Bazooka Joe
Snap Cap
pop down a car brakers and get a heater switch, they usually have in built resistors thus able to control the speed... Thats what I did and it worked a treat. I tried all sorts with the magnet I have, light dimmer switches, resistors. all failed.
