winchester6500
Hi Can any one tell me how difficult it would be to have a semi auto 12g tranfered from a section 2 to a section 1 if I enlarged the magazine, bearing in mind that I have been granted a large mag shotgun on my FAC. Thanks Paul
steve_b_wales
I don't think you can have a shotgun altered from a 3 shot to 3+ or reverse. I have an 8 shot shotgun, originally a 5 shot. I was told that I could not reduce the 5 shot to allow the gun to be entered onto a shotgun certificate. You woulod be better off getting a 'ready made' Sect 1 shotgun, new, or second hand. Paddy Galore!
Hi, it all depends what make gun you have, its best to see a gun smith about this because some cannot physically be altered. some can but might cost a bit to do, once the shot gun has been deregulated and put on a section 1 licence it cannot be put back on a normal setion 2 licence ever. Not to mention you will also de-value the gun in the process. Hope this helps.... gram.
Andy H
For a s2 shotgun to become s1 the conversion must be done by an RFD as they are the only persons that can transfer it from one catagory to another in the RFD register and then transfer it back to you as a s1 shotgun , After you get fed up with it they can also restrict it back to s2 and present it to the proof house for certification and transfer it back to you as a normal s2 shotgun , Prohibited firearms are the only firearms that cannot be converted from one class to another ie: a Spas 12 with a folding stock cannot have a fixed stock fitted to bring it above 40" in length and then given a s1 firearm class as it is a converted prohibited weapon and therefore retains its original s5 catagory (prohibited) , The only thing that can be done to it is de-activation. I was told different, never mind learnt something new. might not be financially viable though, having it registered twice, the proofing charge, postage, not to mention the work on the gun. quite a few 2nd hand guns out there all reasonably cheap, and a new escort will only set you back about £ 400ish. Why would you have to re proof the gun because you haven't modified the barrel or the action just the magazine capacity. Med way on the net can supply conversion kits
Slug
Some are easy and cheapish to convert to Sec 1 some are hard work, google Peter Starley, top bloke, and RFD, does a lot of these conversions.
Andy H
The proof house do not reproof the gun all they do is inspect it and issue a certificate of magazine restriction , When going from s2 to s1 there is no requirment for inspection the rfd can do it all. winchester6500
Thanks guys  I have purchased a 2+1 shot Winchester SX3 and I know that the mag can be extended on these guns. It was only the transfer to a section 1 that I worried about. Thanks Paul
Billy.
Any alterations to a gun must be done by a RFD and entered onto the ticket. Most 2+1's can easily be made to a 4+1. However you'll need an extension tube for anything bigger.

winchester6500
Hi Gram71 Not too worried about decreasing the value of the gun as I tend to hang on to my guns, I don't tend to swop and change so it will be with me a long time (never sold a gun in my life). Some poeple I see blame bad shooting (clays mainly) on there gun and they keep changing it thinking thats the reason but they are constantly in a bad cycle, it makes me laugh. find a gun that fits and get use to it. it will last for years. Cheers.
