docholiday
I am on Holiday this week and here is how its panning out Sat was our shoot day, 89 pheasant. 2 woodcock. 2 partridge and a cople of pigeon, my pegs didnt work out to well so my contribution was not what it could have been but agreat day with good friends dogs and food Sunday was a day at Ringwood on the Clay Pigeon, Met up with The Smith bros from this sight, great day and got my ar se whipped , but goodd to meet some local shooting people. only problem was that I didnt have time for a greasy burger between shooting :( Monday saw me down at one of my permissions, had a walk around and saw nothing but deer slots. so set up to see if I could decoy a pigeon or two Only managed to get one Rook but it was the first day with no rain for ages so nice to be out B) As you can see this has Rye growing, no good for pigeons until they cut it next september. so as it became dark I had a wander with the lamp. B) Now there was not a breath of wind and the farmer had put some hay bales out which I was resting on, anyway first Rabbit was about 60 yds then I stayed put and after 10 mins a Rabbit appeared in the middle of the field, having not shot very much all day I lined up on it and bug ger me it fell over measured at 145 paces. 10 mins later shot one at about 80 paces then over by the hedge on the OTHER side of the field was taking the **** so I had a pop and the silly bug ger also fell over 185 paces, I still cant believe it, guess it shows the effect of a stable shooting platform and zero wind, I take few shots over 100 yds so still not sure who was more suprised. me or the rabbit ! (.17 HMR) Today was going to have a day off when farmer called me to say the pigeons were hammering the rape at the farm, so i didn't need a second invite into the Land Rover and when I arrived walked off about 200 pigeons on the first field , went around a few fields, and there were flocks in one of the fields so went down about half way into the hedge, set up the hide, set up the decoys and even though it was drizzle and no wind had a lot of pigeon flying high over me, really difficult shooting the birds wouldn't come to the decoys but ended up with 10, (couldn't find 2) for an awful lot of shots I wont tell you how many shells I used. So I have some difficult but great pigeon shooting should be great towards end of this week some wind and very cold. Problem is I need help to get into one of the other fields to keep them moving around!!! Tomorrow I have to be at Langstone harbour at 6.30 am as The chairman of Langstone wildfowling club is taking me out goose/ duck shooting, then sat Is pheasant shooting so on thurs and frid and sun I have a trip to poole harbour and have a few more goes at those pigeon and Rabbit. need to go and lie down to get my energy up what a weeks holiday, as long as we get snow not rain, cant believe my luck having this week off. Any of the last 6 would have been a washout Cheers Doc Edited December 15, 2009 by docholiday

al4x
nice one Doc as you've found if you can do your bit and put the bullet in the right place the HMR will do the business, we have to stretch ours at this time of year lamping when you can't get off the farm tracks but usually if you can see a rabbit you have a fair chance on it
Frenchieboy
Sounds like a great way to spend a holiday Doc! Some nice sized looking rabbits there! docholiday
Today went to Langstone Harbour after a very kind invite from their chairman. Thanks once again Nick. didnt shoot anything no wind but what a day to see the sun coming up on the foreshore, lots of Brent and wigeon a few Canadians but all way up in the sky, I will be applying to join their club so fingers crossed. (Bit early all this wildfowling though ) Home tonight and my boiler has broken down, no heating or hot water, so what do I do waste a day of my holidays waiting for the plumber or go pigeon shooting and not wash I Wonder what it will be doc
