does any one else share my amazement at events in the u.s ?

seems the country that most prides itself on its civility is worse than some of the countries it has invaded.armed looters walking the streets, fighting for food and medication, total chaos and aid taking ages to get through.

classic us policy=send in the troops.

what a total farce.physician heal thyself as someone greater than bush once said.

I'm afraid your right on all points. But sending in the troops is probably the first step to secure the area before proper relief work can begin. Biggest problem is the lack of communication & co-operation between the State and Federal Governments......This is probably (hopefully) another real vote loser for Geo.W

Can you imagine what would happen in this Country, if a similar disaster affected one of our major Cities.

I suggest something very similar to what is happening there.

The scum start looting here if there is a power cut.

One of the big problems in that area of the US, is that whilst you have specific areas of population grouped in large townships, there are also loads of small villages and homestead areas in the surrounding bayou and marshland.

Most of these have simply disappeared.

I fished out of Venice, Louisiana last year and now it doesn't exist, with the Gulf coast about 20 miles further inland, than it was before Katrina.

Its a terrible disaster and it will be weeks before the total loss of life is known.

your spot on Cranfield, its a very big disaster, there's even talk of the long term fallout being greater than the 911 tragedy, there's is a great loss of life in the New Orleans area and its sad to say the least , the scum of the earth seem to crawl from the depths when a disaster like this occurrs , they make us all sick to the stomache , i have a friend down in the French quarter ,and have not heard from him since , there's no blame to be aportioned to GW or ANY OTHER SINGLE INDIVIDUAL , Again mother nature seems to be reacerting herself , the only thing i wish for is a speedy rescue for the trapped and missing ,and a solid effort to bring peace releif and comfort to the area and its people .

offer a prayer for all once in a while ,you never know the big fella upstairs may take a shine to you and listen .

absolutly NB, ive been watching closely events that are unfolding now,and still looters are running amuk ,just finished listening to reports of cops taking trolley loads of gear out of shops and stores "COPS" of all people , kinda scares you as to how fast things can go belly up dont it , the Atlantic Canadians are now looking to offer shelter to many of the homeless and helpless, there is a French-Canadian, Acadian and US Ancestors kinship that is seen to be drawing some good out of the Canadians ,and they are offering help where its needed .

didnt take offence at your comments NB , GW is an ok geezer ,not my favorite guy but nor is the french speaking plank we have driving our boat up here :lol: .

my post was not anti american (not that anyone has accused it of being so).just amazes and disheartens me that this is a massive disaster compared to the events of boxing day last year and why ? because these people spoke english and lived in a "civilised" country.loss of life is tragic on any scale wherever it may happen but do people realy believe it shouldnt happen because they live in a country that are a super power ? this is small beans made bigger by the wow factor and cameras in every face.

my prayers, for what they are worth, are with those who have lost loved ones.my damnation to those who make the headlines for all the wrong reasons :<

im still waiting for Al Quaeda to claim responsiblity for Katrina

seriously though, i am really surprised at the delay in getting support to those affected. im pretty sure if it happened here our armed forces would cope much better. saying that though, our lot wouldnt have to deal with the likes of those in new orleans shooting at helicopters. :<

my post was not anti american

Mine is...

Ive watched the events unfold with baited breath... one of the biggest natural disasters in the History of the US.

The truth is the Nation was unprepared for a disaster of such a scale even though the Federal Government has been made aware for several years of the likely failure and inadequacies of the flood defences.

I was in N.O. several years ago and we are mislead by the picture of an affluent society with the Mardi Gras in full swing. From my own observations the community is mostly poor black Americans living on the peripheral of the city, the areas which have been mostly eradicated.

Now George Bush is chest beating and criticising the rescue services while Condaleesa Rice packs aid boxes as a propaganda exercise on TV.. all this going on while The Americans import moguls are running around Europe like headless chickens trying to buy all the Oil reserves they can to maintain petrol to its motorists.... Strikes of Hypocracy to me...

I am afraid to say that we wouldnt be seeing this level of response from the American Hierarchy if Aspen had been hit with a massive avalanche or Beverley Hills with a Earthquake.!

Im afraid when it comes to the organisation of International relief.. the World largest economy comes bottom of the Pile.

God Help those poor people.
