Has anyone on here made a waste oil heater?

Right guys. I've been searching the net for a cheap or free method of heating my wood shed. I've come across a home made burner that uses drip fed waste engine oil. It looks simple to make and when I looked on youtube it looks like they're very clean burning.

I know that garages have to pay to get rid of their used oil so I was thinking that if I offered a free collection service I could get myself quite a lot of oil for little effort!

Here's a link to what I'm looking at. Also check out the modified bit too as it sounds better.....

Webber that's a very good point there. Luckily my wood shed will be far enough from the house to not be an issue, I just want it to dry the wood out a little more quickly. If it burns down I'll be annoyed but it wont be a serious issue.

I think all the local chip shops supply a local bio diesel company. It's worth asking but I'm not sure how much luck I'll have. There are a lot of cars on the road. At a gallon of oil per engine and just one service per day I think I could get more than enough oil from just one garage :good:

Whilst I am sure you will be able to get some waste oil, I think it is law for a garage to prove if needed where their hazardous waste is disposed so you should be licenced to take it. It does cost us in the trade a hell of a lot to dispose of though so go and ask a few small independents before you make the burner.

Burners do produce amazing heat so good luck
