Hi, as per the title i would like some advice from the pro's. If you had a £800 to spend, (£1000 max if you sold a shotgun to help fund it) and wanted a .22-250, a scope, mounts and a box of carts please tell me what you would buy of each to help me decide.

Would you go for cheaper new gear or better quality second hand gear and hope it wasn't burnt out? thanks in advance, a boring thread i guess but any advice is very much appreciated and will save a newbie to the centre fire community spending money on the wrong thing when times are hard!!

thanks again

I can't offer any personal advice as such but can tell you my plan for when i put in for my centre fire in the next few months. Will go for either .22-250 or.243 and from there i will be looking for a second hand tika most likley t-3 (local rfd has a left hand tikka continental for £300 im thinking of putting a deposit on) and from there i will be looking at a second hand scope probably S&B or Zeiss 8x50 or something similar again around 300-350 and then get a wildcat p8 mod. Hope my plans can give you some inspiration :P all the best with whatever rifle you settle on

Thanks for that njc, i think i had read it on here about the barrels but wasnt sure if it was bitching or true! Why is that gun so cheap??? and what do you mean by quickly rounds wise? will they burn out if used for hunting or by constant use on the range? was it a bad choice of caliber if the gun isn't going to last?

thanks

it will last however with a second hand buy you'll never really know how many rounds have gone through it and how they were loaded. Its a gun that people can load up a bit to get faster rounds that will burn the barrel faster. In usual use its not a problem but if you buy new you know what its done. Its one reason I went for .223 as they are harder to shoot out, I picked up a remington 700 sps with timney trigger and mod for £600 so your budget isn't impossible

Standard loaded round count for a 22-250 is about 1250 rounds for sub MOA accuracy, but will still shoot fine for most hunting applications well beyond 2000 rounds.

IF the rifle has been used for target shooting and been loaded 'Hot' then this may take the sub MOA accuracy down below 1000 rounds, but still fine for hunting.

They are not a bad choice at all and probably the best foxing round out there, they are flat shooting and hit pretty hard.

That CZ is damn cheap and you will be hard pushed to beat that price for a new and cheapish gun ( but accurate and people swear by them).

The Howa deal is also good, but some shoot and some don't!!!

if you can afford a New Tikka or (even better) Sako then this is the route i would take
