flytie
Gentlemen and ladies, I bid you raise a glass (with a wee dram in it) to the late great Bill McLaren, "The Voice of Rugby"! The world is a much poorer place tonight for his passing He commentated, impartially, on some of the greatest games of rugby ever played. We will not see his like again My thoughts go out to "Bet", his splendid other half, and the rest of his family. I am sure there will be no room in the Churchyard let alone the Church (Kirk?) on the day he is buried. Hawick will, and rightly so, come to a standstill. Here's tay us, who's like us, damn few ft

windrush
Sad news indeed. I trust he will be appropriately remembered during the forthcoming and eagerly awaited tournament.
Aled
Yep really sad news. Bill, reflected all that was good about rugby, the banter, the craic, and was the best commentator to boot. Those making an effort now are not in the same league. Raising glass and saying a rather sad cheers. Aled

Fisherman Mike
Well said flytie..... Met the great man once after a charity rugby match I played in in Edinbrugh. Simply understated Gentleman with a vast knowledge of the game and an instantly interesting voice. I fondly recall his totally unbiased commentaries of the home internationals, as equally enthusiastic and elated when England hammered the Scots at Twickenham ( as they often did) as he was when Scotland won the very occassional game at Murrayfield. A truly great Rugby man and should have been Knighted years ago for his services to Rugby and Broadcasting, certainly before Clive Woodward who got his for that last minute Wilkinson drop goal in 2003.....Total injustice RIP Bill.....we'll not see your like again. "that's a try by Hika the hooker from Ngongotaha"! Priceless they should use it as an epitaph
