Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
The farmer may have nitrate it but it early but if he has it will be bitter for a couple of weeks. But birds have been fluxing in and out of areas just read some of the posts I have very little pigeons on anythink which is rare in oxfordshire. So it maybe they have just moved the cover crops are all being chopped at the moment and birds have been affected one the heavy feeding on rides cease. Catamong
At this time of year, they often move onto newly chopped up cover crops, that's where you'll find 'em. They'll be back on the rape soon enough, as the rape grows they will concentrate on the areas that have been grazed right down as they don't like feeding in tall crops, this is when you can make some really good bags, also, you're doing the Farmer a real favour, crop protection when he most needs it. anser2
Over the past 2 years my local pigeons have been using rape less and less. I never had a decent shoot over rape last winter and this year looks like being the same. I have the shooting on over 800 acres of rape and only 2 fields have any real damage , both hit in the game season when no pigeon shooting is allowed. Many fields this year have not even got any protection ( gas guns \ flags ect). I know work was being done to make rape distasteful to pigeons . Are these new varieties being planted now ? wattsowatts
I've got no pigeon coming in on my OSR at the moment. All the pigeon around my permissions are staying on the maize cover crops.
