Moon3y
Hi all, my problem is this. This weekend I'm going to the Newark shooting fair to buy myself my very first precharged gun. My plan is to buy the hw100 thumbhole, hawke sidwinder scope along with the precharging gear needed. I picked the weihrauch because I already have the hw80 & what a great gun it is, but here's the thing I've always been a 2.2 pellet person but after reading some gun mags lately I'm thinking of trying the 1.77. It's alot of dosh to spend if I don't like the 1.77 I'm looking to spend about £1100 this weekend until I spotted the daystate mk4is hmmm that also was being reviewed in my mag, but again in 1.77. I'm buying for sure this weekend but do I get the hw100 2.2 or 1.77 version with new scope & other bits? or say sod it and go for the daystate without my new scope. christy
Think I would stick with the original plan, HW100 is a fine gun. If you prefer .22 then go for .22. No need for complications. Strueth there are sooo many combinations...stick with your first idea, it's a good one.

aaron airgunner
maybe go down to an airgun club or try out .177. to be honest there is no better calibre. when im choosing a new gun i just go for the 'eeny meeny miny mo' option. the_commoner
personal preference but what i can say is that i always have shot .22, i bought a .177 once and just did not get one with it, both calibres will do the job, if you are used to .22, the drop etc i would stick with it

farmboy99
theyre excellent guns from what i gather i love weihrauch springers and i always told myself when i went pcp id get a hw100 but its turned out ive got a s400 multi shot conversion and a rapid 7!? dont know what happened really but it did and to be hounest im really happy i think these days all the guns are excellent it basically comes down to weight and feel. get the hw100 i reckon you'll be well chuffed. although to be hounest id get a second hand one for half the price as mint ones come up often and theyre built so well i doubt much goes wrong with them. and also for the price people pay they look after them really well usually
vampire
Had my AA S410 CLASSIC .177,for a while now and it was my first pcp,all i would advise is go for 177 it flys straighter no arguments and it kills what it hits, simples. Other than AA of course, you are lookink at one of the best guns out there, these were recko to me when i was looking and have heard constant praise from people where ever you go. Dekers
HW100, .22 for pest Control...if you want target work get the .177!!
jasper3
I looked at "what cal for vermin control" some said .22 others had no problem with .177 the .22 answers were..its a bigger pellet with a heavier impact, the .177 answers were.. its a faster pellet with deeper penatration and more accurate over distance now !!! my view would be... ( and this is my view only) If !!!! I couldnt make a clean head shot..I wouldnt make the shot, so in my view a .177 can be as affective as a .22 with a clean head shot within the 20- 40 yd range. my personal view on shooting isn't to blast at everything that moves (in the vermin list) my enjoyment comes with stalking the target, taking in all the conditions then making the perfect shot ..... as siad, I'm not looking to debate the .22 v .177 ,.......... its just my personal view jasp forgot to say..always use a good pellet for your gun..I use premier ultra magnum Edited February 26, 2010 by jasper3
Langer
Hi Mate, I used to shoot a BSA XL 177 and couldnt get the drop on anything!!! I swapped to .22 HW100 with much better results. I guess it depends on what your shooting, but if your used to the drop and power of a .22 I would stick with that. People will say that the .177 is more accurate, it is, but the kill zone will need to be more smaller!! So everything else will need to be top notch, i.e. your stalking, marksmanship etc... Hope I've helped. Hey do what I'm doing, cashing in my airgun for a 12 gauge!! I'm getting to old for stalking around with an airgun!! Happy hunting
