955i
All through last year, my bags were fairly light and cartridge:pigeon ratio was shocking. Thought I was just a lousy shot, but this year I have noticed a difference and I am now shooting in an hour what it would take a day to get last year. I have examined my shooting (stance, gun mounting, lead etc) and none of this has changed, so why the big difference? The only thing I can see that has changed is that last year I worked for a large company with lots of work pressure and could only shoot on Saturdays which meant I missed a day spent with the family. I have now left the company and work for myself which means I can get out during the week and have been finding myself 'in the zone' while shooting. I am convinced that the stress of work and the niggling guilt at missing a family day was affecting me while shooting and this is the reason for my appauling hit rate through the last year. Just goes to show that it is not all about cartridges, gun type and technique. You also have to have your head in the right place to do well!! Happy shooting all.....literally

danddo
I think you are right, I have recently taken early retirement and can now pick and choose when to go shooting and my days are now much more relaxed.

berettaman
Its working that way for me too,i have had an unexpected day off and even though i didnt shoot many birds they were all clean kills not a winger amongst them, folded when shot and thudded into the earth, nice
utectok
Im pretty sure most sports are mental to a large degree. Even my wife says Clay shooting is very zen and she has only shot at 12 clays in her life (mind you she hit 9 which was pretty amazing!). Pepe
955i you are spot on. I had the same problem. I had been working 60-70 hour weeks for the last couple of years, including saturdays and sundays. No clay pigeon shooting or game shooting. I was invited to a phaesant and partridge day and I shot nothing. I had about 20-25 shots. I have left the job and now work for a different company, doing a lot shorter ours, 40-45, free saturdays and sundays. So I have gone back to shooting and my avarage has gone back to normal 1 to 2 1 to 3.
Chard
90% of shooting is in your head. If your head's not right, you won't shoot well. I reckon you've got that spot on. You're more content and relaxed, so you're shooting well. Long may it last
smig4373
Perhaps this years pigeons are flying slower....lol.... If your in the zone...Your in the zone....Its the same as every-thing...The more you practise the better you'll get...Some days i cant miss...Most days im rubbish...If your not in the right frame of mind forget it.....Ive stood on pegs on a driven shoot worrying about baliffs coming round.....Didnt hit anything all day..Then get ribbed off the rest of the lads for missing.....Ya cant say why tho.... what ever it is thats making you shoot well..Hang on to it....
