hmr ammo

went out last night to shoot some rabbits with the hmr and checked the zero with the federals..all seemed fine and so set off to look for rabbits.

seen one at 90yrds and got into prone position and had the rabbit in my crosshairs and pulled the trigger..ding!..no bang.eh.so i tried to recycle the bolt to see if i bullet would go in and then eject it.

it would not,so i strip the gun and i then found that the ejected round looked like a fired round but,in this case the bullet head was stuck in the barrel and the round had not gone off.no way of getting it out,so had to call it quits ,even though their was a few rabbtis about but, they will be their tonight i hope.

going by the bullet,it looks as thought the powder is damp,as the strike on the bullet rim is good.they were only bought about 2 weeks ago and the first box were fine and i hope it was a one off.

i have today removed the bullet head, which was stuck in the chamber.so will clean the rifle and take the cleaning rod with me just incase.

batch number for those who want it and who may have issues with them are...29465 05727

be careful out there.

Sounds dangerous!!

I bought a batch of remington .22 Hv (500) and amongst the Hv's were a mix of sub sonic rounds, dud rounds and rounds that failed to even reach the end of a 50yrd range! It was a sealed box, so no one had messed with it... Makes you wonder about the quality control aspect of the manufacture of ammo doesnt it?!

i went out tonight and was not impressed with the grouping of them,i have used remmingtons to and they shoot well but, federals have been ok until now,so maybe just a bad batch :( ..i will get some more but,not from that batch.

Can't remember this on the HMR before but I had a .22lr a couple of years back where somehow it managed to get through production with no primer in the rim...just another possibility!

that could be another answer besides the damp powder one...,still scarey when the bullet head is stuck in the barrel.. :(

"bullet and case manufactured by Hornady but loaded by CCI as all 17 hmr is"

i heard that they did all but, that one answers the thought i had about the difference in accuracy in my rifle a cz.

I had this problem, and I don't want to Hi-Jack your thread (Mine was in 17HMR blue tip) I think my problem was down to a new moderator in the end, was asked to try a new one out and started bashing bunnies again :good:

I use Remington 17GR Accutip-V Boat Tail in my CZ452 and have never had a single misfire or a damaged round and find that they group very well for me so I'll stick with them!

i did use remmingtons, frenchie and never had an issue with them but, when i went to the gunshop to get some more, they had none in,so i looked for next best bullets, hence the v-shok ones.which were superb in the gun,so maybe and hopefully just a box problem,as the first box were ok.
