hookbones
ok so the lesson here is dont leave a renewal till the last moment.. an incentive for this is the criminal charges a gunshop i know puts on storage..it may start at £5 p/week p/gun but it soon makes its way up as far as £150 till you get a call to either pay up or sign your guns over. now considering the number of guns some people have thats sheer robbery !! this thread seams to be leaning toward the to carry or not to carry your ticket instead of the issue of shooting while between tickets.. as far as the carrying i do but dont like it <fearful of loss in the field> ..i keep it with my permission rolled up in a cigar tube safe n dry as for the shooting betwix tickets id not <this situation has trouble all over it>

bignoel
What is so hard about about carrying your dertificates when you carry firearms? When you see how thrilled some of the members are on here when the certificate is granted iin the first place, they's probably carry it when out gardening or somesuch, then an undetermined period of time passes and suddenly it's an embarrasment and a chore to carry. I think those who are saying they don't and won't carry them, well you may have made the wrong choice i.e. an FAC holder if you want to be a rebel license was in for a variation .where fao asked did i have enough ammo till it was returned .what does that tell you . i know the officer was only doing his job and they werent ****HOLES at all but my fao's boss told me with no effort at all they could of found out if the 243 was on my license after all he took the serial number and did some kind of a check .like i say i made a call to the station and told them it was now costing me work as my firearms are my liveing within 20 minutes i receive a call from a different county P O and a full apoligy for any incoveniance go collect your gun .but the gun left my procession so now would need a full service and bore sighting as you can not be sure it wasnt tamperd with .also the rifle was handed back to me in its case bolted and 14 rounds with it in the case thought they were to be kept seperate . i just could not be botherd to follow any of this up as there can be reprocussions . i now have a section 5 which requires me to have a pistol safe in my van does this meen everytime i drive my van around i will be getting stopped to check to see if the pistol is on board the gun law really does need addressing O yes i did leave a certain amount of messages to a company who i pay for insurances and legal advise . where i shall be canceling my membership now. a return call doesnt cost the fee they ask each year
hookbones
the point is that its foolhardy to shoot when your unable to produce you ticket should the need arise even if your within your rights to do so. i had deer taken off 1 license due to a clerical error during a variation... what position would i have been in had i been challenged stalking when technically i did not have deer listed till i sent it back to be rectified. your license should really be in order and in your hand ..even if your within your rights once an over zealous copper overreacts after being given an inch it becomes another legally held firearm confiscation statistic that gets trumpeted by police, politicians and antis . once it becomes a statistic it stays one no matter who`s in the wrong. in this instance who thinks after its been sorted the confiscation has been taken off the list? must add in edit.. i was on a train of thought from the northunbria post where the guy had left his renewal till last moment that i responded to earlier ..apologies for the melding of responses.. i may be dog smart but not people smart! Edited March 17, 2010 by hookbones
