njc110381
That Cat looks smart. It would make a great tool for extracting Deer. I'm not sure why I don't like the U500 type machines. I just don't think they look like a Unimog should? I really prefer the square cab models.
al4x
you know you'd be better off with a fast trac because you can actually see whats going on behind you with any trailed / mounted implement
njc110381
A Fast Trac isn't a Mog though is it! Stop trying to be sensible! I like Mogs. I don't really need to see what's going on at the back because I'll never plough with it or do anything like that. A topper or hedge flail (which I would use) can be fitted to the front so it can be driven into tight corners more easily. I'd make much more use of the tipping pickup bed on a Mog, which although it kind of messes with the agricultural vehicle bit it's the same as the red diesel issue (nobody really knows enough about them to know that it could be an issue). Am I managing to sound like I've thought this through yet? Edited March 16, 2010 by njc110381

njc110381
That is a pretty smart tractor I have to agree. It would do well for everything apart from load carrying. Unfortunately the U1300L Mogs listed on the Jacksons site wont take a 3 point linkage due to the design of the crossmember. They were designed from the start to be an all terrain lorry so wouldn't do the job for me (or be taxable as an agricultural vehicle I doubt). It's a shame because the U1300L offers a lot of truck for your buck (too much time on US sites!). Last of all, what do you think my previous fad vehicle was? That's right, a Hagglund BV! No use at all whatsoever for me but a customer I worked for last year had one to carry beaters and I'm not kidding it would go anywhere. He used to drive it down his field and into his lake to wash it and it would swim across and climb the bank on the other side like a normal car would stride over a pot hole! Truely amazing, but even I could see it would be a vast waste of money. And they're huge! They look little in the pictures but stand next to one, they've got to be nearly as long as a small city bus! njc110381
That's exactly it, the first one. That sort of tool would suit me perfectly. I could run the chip into the truck and leave the trailer at home or on bigger jobs take the kit and blokes in the truck and fill the trailer with chip. I'd go for a slightly smaller Mog, trailer and chipper simply because that rig is out of my reach for now. I'm hoping to buy a cheapish set up and make it earn enough for me to upgrade.
