old rooster
Amazing how different areas vary, we've been ferreting out near Milton Keynes for over a month now with no digging and no young rabbits ! Hope things pick up for you Pete.

Cranfield
I don't know the type of areas you are ferreting, but I find that earths in woodland areas seem to have later litters, than earths in open meadow/hedgerow areas. I never get the nets out, until there have been a couple of frosts.
old rooster
We ferreted a clay shooting ground last year and had no small rabbits at all, saw loads of rabbits on the adjacent farm and got permission to ferret there, went the next week and had loads of young un's running through the nets. this was in January !!! No hard and fast rules these days it seems. Maybe due to climatic changes ?

henry d
While walking the dogs today I saw 3 lots of bunnies trying to "get it on" so I suppose a load of kits in late nov/early dec is on the cards unless it gets really hard and frosty/snowy in which case the does will ingest or eat the kits. Not good either way eh!
Cranfield
bigsam, I helped out an old Chap who had permission on the Power Station land, about 30 years ago. He was a friend of my Uncle and in those days he got paid for rabbit clearance. Unfortunately, he broke his leg and my Uncle arranged for a few of us to keep the rabbits down, so the old Chap wouldn't lose his job. I remember those shallow earths well, but I also remember that when that wind blew down the burrows, the rabbits didn't want to bolt. At least you could dig out lay ups, with your bare hands. bigsam
cranfield- thats interesting to know mate and your right about the wind !! and also about the digging some earths are only 6 inches down but there again some earths go under the dis-used concrete pads !! pavman
I blame Global Warming even effecting the bunnies now
