verminator69
Weather over the last couple of days hasn't been good raw easterly ,went out tea time yesterday seen a few deer about mostly tucked tight up against the woods or not venturing very far from cover.Had a half hearted stalk into a couple of does that were feeding on a Heep of rotten tatties, new the buck would be somewhere had seen them often enough, sat for about a good hour darkness was coming in quick then he decided to show his self 200yds down the wood. The ground was to open to get closer and i would have spooked the does so left him be till another day. Went out late afternoon today sun was shinning no wind and very mild, lots of deer about out sunning themselves had a drive round and decided on the ones to have a stalk into, they were sitting in a winter barley field and i thought it would be the easiest stalk with having the gammy leg. Got they gear ready and decided on approach had a couple hundred yds to get round them again slight wind out the east, then it was open ground got my self lined up with a couple firs the only ones on this plato.got myself into about 150yds to the beasts, stalked the next 50yds on my elbows, and then the heavens opened up and it started to **** down.deer were still there so got myself under on of the firs and sat and watched and after 15mins that they were going to be sat there for a wile so sent 80grain federal on its way, perfect one down and the other 3 sat and watched it twitch, sent the next one same outcome, sat for another 10mins and the does weren't even going to move so i got up before they bolted. Walked over to them a couple of small cull bucks but its a good start to the season.

sako751sg
Ill bet it was a god send with the bad leg.I used to enjoy the drag back to the jeep with a roe or two,but with the weight of the rifle and add ons,the rucksack and shooting stick the novely has worn off, .I shot 3 bucks a couple of years ago one evening and had to drag/carry/kick them about half a mile.I couldnt be bothered making two trips and i was ****** by the time i got to the jeep.Hence,i always try to stop at 2 nowadays.Saying that, the bucks are the highlight of my year and wouldnt change a thing with them. Frenchieboy
Grand start to the season Verminator. That's some seriously nice kit you have there, I'm envious! Well, to be honest, I am envious of all of you chaps up there north of the border with the quality of land that you have to shoot on and the game you have to shoot over! How is the leg holding out mate?

Thank goodness we've got the new hygiene laws to make us all safe.

docholiday
Nothing wrong carry them in a agro but use a clean washable box's but as i said thank **** your north of the boarder I am guessing you dont know much about stalking because if you look these animals have not been gralloched, therefore will not cause any problems as the meat cant be contaminated by transporting it in this way. still amazes me what dribble people put on some posts. went out last night set up and three does came within 40 feet great to see and watch that close, turned behind me to see a buck just scented me and took off, out again next sat. Harnser
Any deer that I shoot I run up to them and catch them before they hit the ground and then I spray them with an antiseptic so they dont get any germs on them , they are then taken to the larder and disected under germ free conditions and then blasted with radiation just to make sure . For crying out loud . Harnser .
