jim38curl
Hi all, Had the visit today. 3 weeks from posting the form off. Had the acknowledgement 2 weeks ago. Not bad going from Dorset Police i thinks. Lady that came out ( Liz Adair for any that may have dealt with her ) was helpful as anything, answered all my questions and put me at ease by keeping it really informal, said she had no problems with any of the application. Got approved for a .22 rimfire but she said she would have no problem with me getting a .223 for the foxes as long as i get written permission from the farmer. She also added a .22 FAC air rifle for me and suggested that if i did go for the .223 she would be able to do a variation for free by taking off the air rifle and swapping it for the .223 therefore saving the £26 fee. How helpful is that, i wonder how many other FAO's would do something like that to save you a few quid in the future. She reckons the cert will be between 7-10 days. I'm not sure if this is the same for every force but i was getting a bit worried about my cabinet not being up to spec. I phoned Liz last week and asked her about it. She said as far as she was concerned as long as it was bought from a gun shop it would be fine and the digital safe i use for cartridges / paperwork is fine for bullets. Once again, a big thanks to Dorset police and especially Liz who make the whole process so simple. Jim.

Sargeant Bang
I'm in Basingstoke so the fella I tend to deal with is Peter Owen from the Hampshire lot. He can be a bit of a stickler and unfortunately he's not ex-police, which sometimes helps, but he is a shotgun shooter, so he likes his sport. All-in-all, a very helpful and speedy administrator. He's suggested to me when I can save money or not and always gets back to me and processes paperwork quickly. Have to say I'm lucky having him, so no complaints from me. I've also dealt with one other chap when I applied for my SGC, he was a really nice guy as well. If you can strike up a good relationship with these folks it's worth it's weight in gold and most of them only want to help you get what you want and they are usually into the sport themselves. Dunkield
I have only ever had good experiences with FLO's. Both of the ones I have dealt with are keen shooters (another internet myth dispelled - sorry about that) and exteremely helpful and friendly. The guys/girls who constantly slag them of always reffering to them as 'plod' etc seem to be the one most affected by long delays and poor service - I wonder why? hang on a minute let me think, uuumm errrr, no I still can't work it out, can anyone help As the last one I spoke told me he only works 4 days a week as he shoots every Friday and Saturday, now I want to be one :*) Mind you 18k a year, I would need to pay my mortgage first!
