Shuck.
can anyone comment on a comparison for peformance difference with a lead pellet in a rifled barrel vs a steel bb from a smoothbore barrel, i.e. accuracy, velocity etc. cheers! Shuck.
I see, is this past a certain range or are they not worth the bother at all?

ryantidgwell
depends if the BB is inacsed in a 12 g shell loads with 2 ounce of the things:D
Dekers
There is no comparison, the BB is a close range fun tool which was never designed for hunting. You will still get a whack from one but I seem to recall they may get up around 300ft sec. Help me out here someone. Whatever, their accuracy/power is nowhere near a 12ft lb air rifle pellet! Shuck.
Am I missing something here, I thought CO2 steel bb air pistols fired at about 300 - 400 fps just to clarify I mean a standard air rifle with lead pellet vs a smoothbore air rifle with steel bb. 5m.. really?? I wasn't planning to use for hunting, just plinking and was thinking of steel as its reusable, also another question was what's the best target for steel bbs as I've given up trying to build a containment for ricochets Edited April 23, 2010 by Shuck. ttalbot09
yeah theyre fine for plinking. although they ricchocet alot. and i tend to you an old argos book its not noisy and stops the pellet/bb. i wouldnt hunt purely because of the accuracy would be horrible
Clubshot
Also should not be used in Rifled Barrels Made for Smooth Bore Gun's Will strip Rifling out of most Guns - Steel BBS Some Hunters used Lead Balls in FAC Rated Rifles before Heavy pellets come on he market BOB/R
Pigeon_snIPer
How do pellets perform compared to round balls? - read this to find out. http://www.pyramydair.com/site/articles/pe...vs-round-balls/ Here is some more information on the BB http://www.pyramydair.com/site/articles/bb-history/ /S/

Ill have to try out those lead GAMO BBs, I'm guessing the rifles used had rifled barrels.. in which case I'd think the BBs would be less accurate then a smoothbore barrel so the accuracy could be better then in that test even though it wasn't too bad anyway! Thanks for the links, S, much appreciated
