MPT1
I went fishing Sunday to a stretch of the Regents Canal. There are lots of big fish and thousands of small ones if you just want some action. Anyway there's been a pair of Cormorants there for a couple of weeks so not a flipping bite. On top of that I got sun burnt.
Dunkield
I guess the closed season doesn't affect canals then?
al4x
Doesn't sound like it "Recent byelaw changes mean that the coarse fish close season does not apply to most canals in England and Wales; again there are some exceptions, mainly SSSIs and these are also listed in the Schedules." John_R
Correct. Some canals still shut, especially those that are really just straightened sections of rivers, and as mentioned those of SSSI status.

MPT1
I guess the closed season doesn't affect canals then? I don't know about elsewhere in the country, but in my area they are exempt. Of course it is still necessary to have a fishing licence.
njc110381
Fishing on stillwaters is exempt from the march-june close. I have no idea why? Canals are the same as lakes as they're usually sealed at both ends with a lock.
