wildcat predator 8 - proofed to 30 cal @ around £225 mark and its stripable for cleaning

Les :good:

 Christ on a bike, that would double the value of the rifle! Anything worth having nearer the £100 mark?

Have to get it screw cut too, any idea how much that'll cost?

As said, I think you are getting mixed up, a .270 is a bit of an animal, you need a decent mod, the Predator 8 is about the cheapest money you probably want to be looking at.

Cuts can be anything from £30/£40 to over £100, proof is a chunk more if you get it done!

And you'd be right...not really had any experience of them to date, hence the question  Only really thought about it as was applying for my FAC and asked for a slot for one on my application as a family friend has the same .270 and says fitting a mod was the best thing he ever did! Like you say, its a beast of a calibre so anything that tames it is good in my book

Sell the rifle and get one already cut with mod otherwise you are looking at 250 plus to cut and for a new mod. Less if you find a second hand one

The rifle belongs to my old man so not sure he'd be keen; took me a while to persuade him to let me fit a mod! Suppose I may as well spend the money on a decent one seeing as i'm getting use of the rifle for nothing! That's another expense to add to the list......

i would also just like to add make sure you go to a decent riflesmith for screw cutting lots of people can do them till you get it home and hit your nice new mod with a round, i have seen some horror storys not trying to put you off just be carefull steve if you want to get one ring steve kershaw firearms as he is exellent .screwcut is 75 pounds and i got an over barrel mod on mine as i didnt want too much legnth adding he also sells secondhand mods as well, i have no ties with steve i just know he is very good and quick turnaround as well, wayne

Cheers wayne thats good to know. I know my dads mate used york guns for his but i bet they were expensive! Bit far away for me too so i'll look steve up.

Dave, think you've summed .270 up already, its a beast with hard recoil and tends to shake every bone in your body, that's why i'm looking to fit a mod. On the plus side it will do for everything from fox to red and hits hard so good and versatile. In all honesty though, if i didn't have one ready to go i'd be buying a .308 over a .270. Much more pleasant to use in my experience and just as versatile.
