Hi all, havnt posted for a while as ive not been out a lot recently. I treated myself to a marlin .17mach2 the other day and nipped to a stables for a couple of hours. Im very happy with the gun, very accurate and the damage it does to the bunnies is devestating :good:

I got 17 bunnies and watched a fox wander around about 30yrds away for 10 minuits, it was a youngster and completely ignored the pile of dead rabits right next to him and instead was digging around in the horse poo. Although im cofident that the mach2 would take foxy out cleanly with a headshot i left him be.

nice rifle that pal could i ask at what distance where the rabbits shot at certinaly done its job.

They were shot between 10yrds - 90yrds, most of my shots are off a bipod so anything upto around 70yrds ill take headshots, over that its chest shots for me but only because i only have a 8 x 56 on it atm. If I had a little more magnification i would go for headshots at longer range. I got the mach 2 because the ammo is less than half the price of hmr ammo and most of my shoots dont need the extra range of the hmr.

I have one of these and it is a cracking rifle, very very accurate!

Should of the took the fox, they will kill the stone dead everytime with a good clean head shot! :good:

I dont doubt they will drop a fox, to be honest though i was quite enjoying watching it digging in the poo. Im also not sure what the general consensus is on mach2 for fox or for that matter whether its on my ticket

Lefty mate, have you used the 17HMR before, if so how would you compare it to the 17 Mach 2? :w00t::oops::lol::lol:

I am not really interested in changing my 17HMR of any other caliber but it would be interesting to compare the two rifles "side by side" so to speak!:angry::lol:

p.s. Nice looking rifle, I particularly like the woodwork - Very Smart!!!!!

I have a riflescope 8 x 56 mounted on it at the moment, i would like something like 10x magnification really but im a bit skint, new gun, boat engine recently packed up etc etc.

Compared to a hmr (which i have got aswell) obviously the ammo is half the price, the noise unmoderated is a little louder than a moderated hmr but the bunnies dont seem to mind and none of my shoots really require a quiet weapon. Im zeroed at 100yrds, i havnt shot past 100 yrds with it yet but when the opportunity presents itself i will be happy to go out to around 130 yrds, the drop is still manageable at that range. I have achieved a 1/2 inch 4 shot group at 125yrds with my hmr but i havent had the mach2 long enough to really explore its potential for accuracy, but i will say that from a bipod i can count on one hand the number of bunnies ive missed and ive shot well over 100 with it now so its pretty accurate. The rajectory is pretty flat out to 100yrds, about half inch high at 70 so i have to aim a little low between 50 and 80 yrds. At those ranges it has enough energy to fragment the bullet and cause hmr like damage to the bunnies, i was quite surprised by that. Really its a toss up between ammo price and that extra 50 yrds you get from the hmr. I will keep the hmr for now, maybe sell it and get a hornet but the mach2 really does fill a gap between the .22 and the hmr in my opinion as long as noise isnt a concern. Im very happy with it.

I have had 22lr, HMR and Mach 2, i tend to compare the mach 2 more to the .22 and in that case I think it is a much more acurate, useable rifle, I dont think there is a hell of a lot of difference between the Mach2 and the HMR, the latter obviously has a bit more poke, but the Mach2 is twice as fast as subsonic, I love mine :P
