deadeyedick
I have a .22 mag which I've had for years. I hate it. Its a terrible calibre. I have been using my 6.5 x 55 for foxes recently. It works well. Should I swap my .22 mag for this new .17? I don't know much about this new calibre and its potential on foxes. AndyCM
Hi Deadeyedick, I have never used a .22mag so can't comment on that. I do use the .17hmr for close range foxes - less than 100 yards and it does the job well using the hollow point ammo - headshots are easy off a good rest. Keep the ballistic tip ammo for the bunnys. I often take my .17hmr lamping with a mate (he's using a centrefire) and if foxes show at close or longer ranges we have it covered. I also use a .243, which is my preferred foxing gun and it does beg the question of why not stick with your 6.5x55 ? Cheers AndyCM
deadeyedick
because I may as well change the .22mag for something more useful. I believed that the .17 was capable of more than just head shots.... then again it is a smaller bullet than the .22mag.
Frank
The .22 Hornet would suit your needs the best in my opinion. Or if you want to take things further, the .223, the best.
deadeyedick
I can only swap the .22mag for the same or lesser calibre.
jonno 357
I can only swap the .22mag for the same or lesser calibre. Go with the 17hmr Its got the WOW factor from such a little pill Jonno
deadeye ive
Should I swap my .22 mag for this new .17Hmr? You bet I'm doing the same .................But I'm going to keep my Fac Air rifle Says something for this calibre(.22mag) does'nt it Unless it's the ultra expensive Target ammo ALL .22 rimfire ammo is **** and inconsistant ....Some is less **** than others Most is ok for 50 m but move on to 75m and thats when real inconsistancy starts.100m forget it... It's a shame because the guns are more than up to long range accurate shooting. Ive PS I'm talking about consistant 10 shot groups here .
