Informing the Police

I always phone in when I'm around sensitive areas that I've had problems with in the past.

The way I see it, I'd rather have a polite phone conversation with some sexy sounding little lovely in the control center, than being yelled at by some hyped up armed police officer to "step out of the hide with my hands in the air "

It only takes a couple of minutes

Sorry Pavman,

New to PW was not aware that the subject had already been covered, if you feel so strong about the topic being covered again then don’t reply to the post.... SIMPLE really

Ian no worries about the topic .....

There is always someone having a pop at shooting in one form or another and from experience whatever ground you give in good faith is lost to us and gained by others never to return...........

so once you start down that road the possible implications are others will have it forced on them.

Another example is I have known of is people reducing bag returns put into clubs in the hope it appeases local Antis (we have not shot as many duck as you say we have type thing) what they don’t think about is in the future if an area comes under any pressure (less birds for instance) people look at bag returns and then negotiate them down from there. So you can end up having limits when there is no need if you see what I mean. What we do is lawful and well policed from within. if a mans in a field with a gun chances are he is shooting lawfully if he is in a town or city centre you would expect plod to investigate

Hi All,

I think this topic has finally run its course and has raised different opinions from members of PW from very different regions within the UK.

It just goes to show that Police forces and Joe public have very different views of our chosen sport/hobby within the UK some better than others.

Thanks All

common sense is whats required, I don't call in as most of mine is rural areas Pavman doesn't for the same reason. SS shoots in London so does call in as every tom **** and harry tend to report that a war has started. Just use a bit of common sense and you will be fine

Dave-G if your shooting around leicestershire you can email it in to save the hassle on the phone if its any easier

and yes depending where im out and at what time I do email them

You mean an email to the control room that I can have pre-prepared and just modify the location?

Sounds quite usefull but that would not get me an incident number to quote if an unsuspecting city plod passes by the field as I'm getting the rifle or rabbits out or in.

Alex, Pav and many others who dont shoot near urban "touchy feely" areas - I fully understand your sentiments and admit to some jealousy of your rural lifestyles.
