308 reloading

Hi I have got a 308 Howa with 1 in 12 twist, I want to reload my own ammo does anybody know what grain work

best. Thanks

Bit more info needed here, are you talking hunting or target loads and at what distance are you likely to be shooting at.

150grn bullets will work well in that twist. :blink:

45 grains of vit 140 behind a 150 grain soft point bullet . Shoots MOA at 100 yards in my m77 ruger . The only bullet I now load, and use it for all deer species and for foxes . Beware of advice on loading as some of the loads I have seen on here have been downright dangerous and proberbly wilful . A 150 grain bullet travelling at about 2500 feet per second is more than enough power for all deer species .

Stick with published N140 loads and you'll never go far wrong. With a 12" twist you will have to stick to bullets in the 150grn end of the range but 168 grn will probably be OK too.

They should do you well .

For target i use n140 @ 44.5gr for a 150 sierra matchking, getting tight groups at 200-400yrds

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, in the sporter, and so far it shoots 110 to 168 at MOA or better with H4895.

 

I have kept the loads at the lower end of what is written in '1 book 1 cal', and stuck with the OAL as also stated, although I have mainly been using the 110 Hornady 3010 with CCI primers to run it in.

 

Can not fault this rifle, even with the standard unadjusted trigger.
