yickdaz
round jodrell bank in cheshire at the mo the numbers are markedly down ,this time last year i was getting bags of 40,50,60s best so far is 12 an only minimal corn cut on 1300acres. some in the know down here say they go abroad for the winter,in that case dont blame the beggers for staying put .what i have noticed is alot more farms are growing barley/wheat round here, they could be alot more spread out i wonder, jus my thoughts yes they do travel overseas to spain and portugal because the french and spanish monitor birds that cross the piranees mountains and the figures go into about 2 to 3 million per year go abroad, and i have found a website in portugal offering wood pigeon shooting and showing pics and short videos of woodies bagged by the spanish and portugese;its called torcaces.com
Cranfield
yes they do travel overseas to spain and portugal because the french and spanish monitor birds that cross the piranees mountains and the figures go into about 2 to 3 million per year go abroad, and i have found a website in portugal offering wood pigeon shooting and showing pics and short videos of woodies bagged by the spanish and portugese;its called torcaces.com I have never seen any evidence that wood pigeons migrate from the UK overseas. There is definitely movement between the European countries, but I don't believe they are "English" pigeons. We never saw much of a drop in numbers in my area during the winter, but the birds were spolt for choice of food and we never had the snows that other parts of the UK had. At the moment there are lots of birds about and it has been a good breeding year with at least 30% of the birds I have shot being this years young. Cranfield
I have seen the video's and looked at the website, but these birds are not migrating from the UK and the website doesn't say that they are. Thats the only point I am making.
