robc89
Well I am getting pretty excited, Have bought a Sako quad in .22wmr off guntrader and it should be with my RFD today. Shame he closes on a Wednesday lol So will have to wait till 2moro Bit more punch than the HMR and available as a ballistic tip I'm quite looking forward to using it. Its comin as Gun only so I will need to find a Moderator and Scope for it. Scope wise im thinking of getting a Nikko GameKing 6-24x50, because they are on offer at optics warehouse and I dont have a huge amount to spend(after a spending spree at the CLA) Id like to try an Over barrel mod like a DM80 or Wildcat but not sure whether I can warrant the price. I may just end up using a Scirroco. Any one have experience or views on any of the above, especially the calibre itself? Cheers Rob
JRDS
I have a wooden stocked Varmint and its a great gun. Two things really bugged me though the horrible plastic bolt **** and plastic trigger guard, replaced them with Rimfire Technologies items and what an improvement. Also bought a Weaver rail from them because I have 2 barrels but if you are not going down that route it won't be needed. Don't have a WMR but with the fairly recent release of lighter weight B/Tip ammo I reckon they could be a real challenge to the HMR plus more clout for Fox. I would also consider cutting the barrel to 16 inches and using an over barrel Mod, DM80 on the BBS is your man for both he does a top job and has shortened, cut and recrowned 4 barrels for me and all have been spot on. They are great rifles just have the issues I mentioned and being too long when fitted with a Mod. Edited August 11, 2010 by JRDS
Paddy Galore!
i've got a quad in 17hmr, had a 22lr barrel, wouldn't mind a 22wmr, the round is a bit loopy but ideal for fox on a budget, let us know how you get on chap, i'd be very interested to hear
Dekers
I have the WMR and currently it uses a SAK, don't be fooled into buying a Whisper, just a waste of money, the DM80 is ok but the SAK or Sirocco are all you will need. The WMR is a great calibre, a few Ballistic tips out there, Remington and Hornady...GMK don't import the CCI yet! Mine likes the 40g HP, and they arrive with some clout, the 30g also work well and fly a bit faster. They all have more energy that the HMR, and the 30g Ballistic tips fly nearly as flat as the HMR, but none are quite as accurate as the HMR! You will have to try a few different rounds just the same to see what you/the gun gets on best with! As I always say, the WMR gives me a feeling of confidence when I'm out with it!! Glad to see another member of the WMR club!! Cheers for the replies I seem quite fortunate that mine can handle most pretty well, but some better than others, like all guns/barrels they can be ammo fussy, try as many different rounds as possible to find out what you and the gun likes! John_R
Sako triggers are adjustable, so you should try that first. If you have no manual then download one from www.sako.fi
