Been out for a walk and found the following tree laden with what looks like some sort of plum/over size cherry. Anyone know what they are and if they are safe to pick/use?

The fruit in the picture is one of the less ripe from the tree, with most other fruit being a bright red colour.

cheers

I've never seen damsons that colour :good:

Damsons are deep blackish-purple when ripe, but I've never seen them anything like that colour, not even when unripe.

I'm pretty sure bullaces are green, even when ripe.

There's something called a wild plum, it could be one of them. I bet they're sour ********

These are wild plums :

There are loads of these near where my daughter lives near Gateshead and they make great jam, chutney and plum vodka(made just like sloe gin). They also taste great on there own if you get them ripe enough, just roll them inbetween your fingers and the ones that feel softest will be sweeter.
