BigMungo
too answer weedrakers original post, I lamp from a van with a shotgun using nothing but the headlights. The method i have found with the more skitty rabbits is to use the van/lights to get between the rabbits and their holes. This way they realise they are lost and go to ground. Its simply then a case of getting the gun on them and...BANG! too join in the discussion...i shoot on an airfield and golf course where the main aim is to get as many rabbits as possible in the bag as they are a serious problem. I have tried both the rifle and shotgun approaches, and on my permission, the shotgun wins hands down. There arent really any local residents, and the groundsmen/airfield manager are more interested in numbers than method. I regularly shoot a top and bottom barrel for 2 rabbits, reload and get a third on the run! Couldnt do that with a rifle

Dave-G
I have a few fields of wheat stubble I can lamp over. I'll be using a shotgun out of the sunroof in a Diahatsu fourtrak whilst my friend lamps and drives. One field is over run with rabbits, the banks are full of holes and the field was grazed bare around the edges. I went out last night and didn't see many rabbits, or get close to them. We went about 10:00 in the evening, we were doing about 15-20 mph around the edge of the fields. We just had the lamp and vehicle side lights on. Any tips? How was the speed or the time of night? I've done plenty of lamping before from a quad on another farm with good results but seem to struggle from the 4x4. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Regards Michael Here's the way I do it, check the opening scene for the position:
keg
Moderated .22 Rimfire with roof mounted lamp works for me, sidelights only on Landy, can get up to 20 a field. HMR is greta but even moderated is a bit too noisy
