Getting a personal history?

A mate of mine who was a bit of a gob****e in his youth and may have had a few cautions for disorderly behaviour about 10 years ago has mellowed somewhat and now wants to get into shooting. Is there some central source (Scotland Yard?) where he can apply to have a listing of his "life story" to help him fill out his SGC application?

None of his misdemeanours were that serious but he doesn't want to miss any out.

BTW, this is not me!!!

Dunno what area your in.

I would google your local firearms licensing team, email them and explain the question, the law is quite Black and white on automatic refusals.

If your convicted of a criminal offence and sentenced to more than 3 Years you are prohibited for life from holding firearms ( Even if the sentence is suspended ).

If less than 3 years the prohibition is for 5 Years.

If the Cautions for disorderly and involve alcohol ( reading between lines ) I think the feo will be looking long and hard at his app, and would probably ask for a doctors report to make sure he has got his head screwed on now.

I do find it slightly worrying that he can't remember all his misdemeanour's but I appreciate he may not remember the dates due to the passage of time, I am sure your FSEL will do a background check if you ask them, don't forget they check the WHOLE history of the address and anyone living with him and can and will refuse an app. on the basis of cohabitation.

Good luck....

Copy from Greater Manchester Police :-

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, sets out exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on public authorities.

Any person who makes a request to a public authority for information must be informed whether the public authority holds that information and, subject to exemptions, supplied with that information.

Individuals already have the right of access to information about themselves under the Data Protection Act 1998.

As far as public authorities are concerned, the Freedom of Information Act will extend this right to allow public access to all types of information held.

Thanks so far.

No convictions for a criminal offence. No violence. Just being a bit gobby with a neighbour as a teenager over their noise, and a noisy argument with a brother on a public street. It's a long time ago, and he is not sure whether name taking was recorded and dates. Plus the usual speeding tickets on the old paper licence now lapsed (and lost) etc.. He just wants to be sure he's got everything down and the correct dates.

I will send him this link as it seems to be the way to go.

He should be able to have a chat with his FEO and explain the situation. They have access to the PNC and can check his history if he's not sure of dates/times/places etc.

I second this - He could pop in to the local nick and pay for a CRB check (Its about £15) - But if he hasnt been charged and gone to court with anything in the past - or had recent cautions or reprimands (both of which are given post arrest) or penalty notices for disorder, then he would be wasting his money. He is better off just applying and being honest with anything he does have (cant remember if you are to record speeding tickets on the app or not but I'm pretty sure it states whether to or not...)
