Whitebridges
With the wind picking up here I managed to get under a little flight line for an hour this afternoon. and bagged four for eleven shots. Not a brilliant average I know but I was happy considering I was shooting through the tree more often than not and the wind was a stiff southerly. One was a cracker and I paced it out at 47 yards. Not quite RRUK's standard but i'm getting there! Pleased with the new shotty a Browning 525 Advance, anyone else use one and what do you think? I saw a couple of big flocks of over 500 plus birds and they looked as though they were coming off the rape (not on my permissions) up the road. There seems to be a few more birds about around here at last. I'm hopeful there is a decent bag to be had after the end of the month on the maize when the game season finishes. Shooting again Friday, yippee.

Whitebridges
Nothing wrong with that ratio mate. Well done for getting anything this time of the year LB LB Cheers, a bit over my one out of three. It'd been bloody hard going in this neck of the woods. The weather has changed over the last few days and now the damp mist has gone there are a few birds drifting about. This time of year I keep the session short and sharp. The birds I shot today were in really good condition and fat old *******. I'll have a look at what they've been feeding on in the morning, there might be a few clues who knows. Most of the land I shoot over is winter barley and I don't bother with 'coys this time of year. It's more fun to lie in the hedge and ambush a few. lurcherboy
Whitbridges, I empty the crops before I leave the field especially when they are on rape. I have noticed that the ones I get are incredibly well filled out, a bit like the rabbits at the moment, maybe they know something we dont LB

Rape can taint the meat. isthat why you do 'em in the field? Did these first thing this morning and they all stuffed to the brim with wheat. There are some large estate shoots around here and they must be feeding heavily. Maybe they have been putting a bit of feed around some of the flight ponds as well. I saw a lot of birds yesterday and if they were all having wheat I suspect there won't be a lot left for the pheasies. Best get out and shoot a few more. Noticable layer of fat on these birds from the crop over the breast which is normal for the time of year.

I picked up the Browning 525 in the gunshop and it felt perfect. I had a shot with one and got on really well with it. I'm not keen on shock pads on lighter field guns as they can stick and personally I prefer 28ins barrels. Still got the Tekyns sporter auto which I wouldn't part with but the Browning is a very nice gun and lighter to carry about. I've put a few different sorts of shells through it and it likes Hull High Pheasant 30g and Hull Special Pigeon 32g. The Special Pigeon seems a fair bit softer (although they are a slightly heavier load) and they are loads cheaper so i'm using them on the pigeons. I went and had a look again today and bagged eight more from the same spot as yesterday. I've got a walked up day in Suffolk tomorrow and a roost shoot later in the day. Have you been out recently you seem a bit quiet? 47 yards is my absolute limit as I don't like runners.

Fenlander
Hi Whitebridges, you were asking if anyone had a 525, well i did,but i've just traded it in against a Teknys, funnily enough as i see you also have one. I had a 30 inch sporter grd 1,it was a nice gun and came up well, but i just could'nt get consistant scores with it on the clays, it got to the point where i was leaving it at home and using my old Miroku trap gun ,which is hardly most sporting shooters first choice, but when i shot the Miroku my scores were high 50s to low 60s ex 75,then i'd try the 525 and see my scores drop to high 40s low 50s, it got so i had no faith in myself with the gun and so it had to go, a shame realy,as i liked every thing about it,but once its in your head you can't shoot with a gun there is no point in keeping it . With the Teknys my scores are back up there again,it's a nice hide gun ,and seems to shoot very good patterns,i use half choke nearly all the time. Well good look with yours mate ,i realy hope you do well with it ,because they are a nice gun. All the best Mick.
Whitebridges
Fenlander, funny things guns.As you say once your confidence goes it time for a change. Although I haven't had the 525 long i'm shooting my best ever with this over and under. I've had beretta o/u guns before and not really shot that well with them. I'm going to try and get over to High Lodge for a few clays and see what happens there although i'm no clay shooter. It will be good practice if nothing else. Enjoy the Teknys IMHO a great gun. I've never had a jam or problem with it and it shoot like a dream.Cheers.
